Current SEO

SEO..search engine optimisation to those of you who don't know that.
SEO.. and why it SHOULD be important to you.

If you are building blogs, websites, or plan to, it will definately
pay to at least try to understand SEO, as it will become a scource
of main traffic for your site...if done right.

Theres the rub, SEO is a constant changing thing as the SE's need
to keep the searches relevant, while keeping on top of those
that use unethical methods to fool the SE for higher placing.

But you SHOULD be in this for the longer term.. so it pays to
get it right and ethical from day one.
Give the SE's what they want and you get what you want!

Simple... CONTENT.. relevant content.. but you still need to utilise
all the relevant parts of SEO to make the most of your CONTENT..

There is alot of advice out ther regarding this yet it is also in constant
change, so what works today may not in 3 months.. this is why it pays
for you to learn and keep abreast of what you need to know, what
effects your work...not everything works for everyone!

Master the basics and you will have a great head start on new sites
you make, while also being able to learn the next thing easier as
it most likely follow on from what you already know.

Master the basics, and implement on every new site.. and you would
see a big difference than had you just built blindy.

Give the SE's what they want and you get what you want!

Go better and give them what they REALLY want...

QUALITY CONTENT....

Add that to good SEO practice and you can't go far wrong.

As a blogger myself I know blogs can get indexed quickly and
often but I now feel that it is NOT the best way to go about getting
indexed, it works yes, but it is NOT the best..

I recently read a free book, which explained quite nicely about
this and it IS easy to try it and see for yourself.. I have to say it
is VERY simple yet a great way of starting to see why SEO is
important.. so a good place to start would be this book..

Grab the backlink book, and read it.. a short but clear read to those
who are new to it..
Or thinking of article writing..;)

After you read that and it makes sense.. which it will.. whatever
you know or don't know about SEO.
You may wish to really get to grips with SEO, and if you ARE planning
new sites etc, then NOW would be the best time to digest this.

For it is the most CURRENT SEO information.. proven by being
a bestseller itself.. proof is in the pudding.. and the guy has sites at
the top os the SE's.... say no more..

I AM planning a few sites and I WILL get the SEO right from the
start, that work will pay off for years to come AND will be far more
profitable to me.. far more than the book cost!

But NOW with the recent google's delisting of all the crap sites there
is a gap to step in and climb that SE ladder.. a better chance for the
REAL content to shine...and stay there.

Want to dominate a niche? Build lots of quailty sites catered for
that niche.. if you get 4 or 5 in that top 10 on google..you will see
a massive boost to traffic and profits.

If they provide QUALITY CONTENT, there is a good chance they
stay there.

Best of all ALL your future sites you can build with quality SEO in
mind from the off and that has to worth doing.
So I would definately recommend you grab the book sooner than
later and capitilise on the recent changes.

Plan well.. act on the advice, deliver quailty and you have a winner
or two... ;o)

Google reader

Having used rss readers for a while and used a few different ones, I
have to say the google readr is great, the best I have yet used, and
if you already use gmail, it will feel a little familiar.

I was using the firefox rss but this google one is far better, with the
added bonus of being able to add the reader to my google home page
it is a breeze to keep up to date.

Shame google isn't spending enough time, or the same level of zest
on blogger.. blogger could be far better than it is.. yes the beta is ok..
but not yet usable with own domains.

I think a great idea would be a "downloadable dashboard" so I have
all control of it.. using own ftp and domain we wouldn't have outage
problems.

Shot themselves in the foot with the bad customer service with blogger.

Google is growing at a rapid rate.. inetrgratioin of all this through
one google control panel is going to be good, easy and a time saver.
Just get it right....

On the whole I would definately recommend google reader.

Two way street

If you really want to get a better understanding of
some things online and how and why things happen the
way they do.. you need look no further than the real
world.

Using an anology can be an effective way to make sense
of something, something that is confusing, hard to
grasp even hard to picture.
It has been done thousands of times for thousands of
different examples and situations.

Thats not exactly what this post is about but it is
involved in a roundabout way.. ;)

Using traffic for an example, which actually fits here
well, you only need look at the roads... ;)

Just as with the usual road traffic there is more often
than not a two way thing going on..
With a few one way streets here and there..

Blogs and websites are very similar with the linking
patterns that happen...with some using the "no follow"
in the linking they are creating a one way street...

One way streets get clogged and jammed... those that
are greedy with links and such will suffer somewhere
along the line.. no doubt.

Some just link out rarely but are happy to have people
link to them.. yes good for SE but so what..the nets
getting more and more personal as I have already said
in a previous post.

The two way street traffic will eventually be the norm
as it should be.
Obviously there has to be only one way linking with
some websites, like direct selling sites etc, they have
a specific aim..and that allows the aim to be
achieved..blogs are different.

Long term you want your blog looking like an active
community... active being the operative word here.

There are thousands of crap blogs out there..AND there
are countless great ones too.. yet so many of the great
ones have hardly any traffic, such a shame for the
majority who never get to see them.

Linking to those you DO like which are hardly being
seen is helping you both, you are sharing a great blog,
and they are grateful for the help which also leaves
them feeling like you deserve a mention along the
line..a link etc.

But NEVER expect the link back.. give without expecting
in return, just as with anything in life.. done this
way you feel happier and greatful you was appreciated..
like you earned the link.

Thats the way it goes.. but doing it with a difference
is what will make the impact..the "reason why" is also
an influence on the end result.

So Johns blog post here was an inspired one in my
eyes.. check it out as well as the rest of his blog.

Setback or kick up the backside?

What a few days, spent them with my boys so that was great,
the local fair was here but sheeesh how much a ride!

Sad to see that I think, after the amount it has also shrank
over the last ten years.
Nevertheless a great half term with the kids and time I wish
I had more of.

Well.. other than that...

I lost my connection for a few days, my own fault for
not staying on top of things.

So.. a setback or a kick in the arse!?

I will take both.. ;O)

I will have to step up a notch now to stay on top and
make sure it doesn't happen again.
It has motivated me to keep going and get cracking on
more of what works and less of what doesn't.

I did get a chance to read a few things I have been
meaning to do..put it off to often as we do.. digital dust!

Some good reading it was, and some good ideas for me to
utilise and test out.

Good to be back I have to say.. ;o)

Incredibly frustrating day today

ALL becuase I LOST my hearing aid.

Like being naked when I don't have it in.
Still it is VERY hard to deal with out there.. all that going on around you yet
in silence!

Lack of communication has to be one of the MOST frustrating things
we can go through... ever lost your voice?

Well I am baffled..pissed off.. and angry with myself today...

You may wonder HOW I lose something like that, well the mould that acually
goes in my ear was there, the working part thats goes behind the ear..weren't..

It was only when I bloody buss went pass and I didn't hear it that I noticed!

I JUMPED right out of my skin. :o(

You get so used to wearing it you don't really feel it anymore..like when people
wear glasses I would imagine.

You notice it when you DON'T wear them far more...

It stands out, it feel uncomfortably different.. its bloody HORRIBLE!

So I got home, spent 3 hours LOOKING for my OLD one.. found it, but its terrible..

I now miss my newer "best you can get" digital one BADLY.

At a £1000 each.. :o(

I am pretty annoyed at myself yet I couldn't have helped it anyway, as the
tube holding them together had broke.

So can't go to hospital before friday as it is not open until then, thats the actual ear, nose and throat place..

So stuck with an old one untill then, but most likey I will have to wait for a new
one anyway.

Not a good day so far.. very annoyed so I have to get head in a different state,
let it go for now.. do something..

Marriage- turning Lynn Terry down!

Lynn posted an "off topic" post on marriage
all the while thinking I wouldn't spot the
subtle "subliminal massage".

That the preference was for a "Brit with a
hearing problem and a sense of homoUr" which
narrowed it down a tad.. ;o)

Yet I had to say no.. bit far away you know..

Joking aside..

She will kill me!! ;o)

Good headlines work do they not?

But wait..before you dissapear.. it was for
a reason and a good one at that.

Not only it got you here...

I am a little at point where I NEED to get
something off my chest, not in a rant sort
of way, but in an positive yet straight manner.

Anyone who knows me offline, and I KNOW a few
my offline real mates read this.. ;o)

They will tell you I don't shy from making
friends or being honest, and yet a mate says
I need to show a little more of the ME through
this blog..so I will.. ;o)

I am sometimes to honest for my own good, some
say, but I don't feel it ever pays to not be honest.

They have a great point there and it ties in
with something I have been thinking about alot
since getting back online.

Being online is getting more and more like
being offline.. except faster.

You may well have heard of the term web 2.0
before you groan or wonder, depending on your
view, lets get something straight here, it is
NOT hype!

Some WANT you to believe that, simply due to
it being a potential banana skin for them..

Before I explain why grab this superb book from
Tiff, read it as soon as you finshed this post,
it will clear it up nicely, not only that you
will also see more of Tiffany Dow in the future
I think..why? take a look at her easy to read,
clear easy to grasp style..

See why the top dogs have hired her in the past?

So..the banana skin?

Its getting to be a people driven market, people
are voting with their word, with their fingers.
And if your product, service don't cut the mustard
it won't last!!

Simply put the net IS running more on word of
mouse than ever before.

Hype to far or lie to much and you WILL get called
out on it... but it also means the people are the
ones who will clean up the niches, and the net.

This post is a perfect example of web 2.0 in action.

Its about interactivity more than anything, that
can be acheived in so many ways, and its good
for so many different reasons.

Linking to others is part of it, blogging itself
is part of it and those who fail to grasp this will
miss out.

Look at John Reese's blog here and tell me THAT
isn't interactivity..two post..over 300 comments.
And THAT paticualar commant was someone
helping ME.. see the people interacting here?

Its about people, sharing, helping, just as
Paul Short does here on his blog, think its worthy
of a link? Thinks its good advice?

He is giving a tip that will help you and all of
us if we DO it.

When you want to buy someting...

The people don't wanna get ripped off, the people
don't wanna get lied to, the people don't wanna
read boring long sales letters, they want a real
recommendation from a real person, someone who they
trust, believe.

People need to be honest..straight..

Thats why you won't see me selling how to make
money selling books on..

"How to make money selling books on how to make
money"!!.

Because I am NOT making silly money.

Those of you who are sharp will have already noticed
the "Tip Jar" on the side here..

Ok that's most of ya.. ;o)

Here is what got me putting that up here.

So..while it pissed me off a tad, it got me thinking
positively, the only way to banish the negative.. ;o)

As this post implies its a people driven thing, I
will let you decide whether my rambles are worth
tipping for... ;o)

But tippers won't regret it.

They will help me move FASTER to where I need to be.

Seth Godin - Stephen King!

No I am not claiming they are the same person!

If you have tried writing at any time you know
how it's not as easy as it seems, and it pays to
learn from others..

One reason I read both of these guys is I can
always learn something from them..

Yet today Seth has hit on something I can immediately
relate to something S King has also touched upon.

Seths post is a very short yet fantastic example itself
of what he writes of.. we learn great by examples.
He teaches yet shows at the same time but in such
a simple short direct manner...

He IS a marketer after all.. ;o)

Stephen King writes of the same thing in his fantastic
book "On writing"... One of his most interesting books.

Very different to anything you expect of him, yet so
good as he shows real examples that HE wrote.

And you see it in his main books.

Do I need to do the same? ;o)

A MUST see.....A must DO

Evereyone should see this..although I can't say what I
thought of it cos I can't hear it, but this is something you
SHOULD watch AND do.

Go take a look and see how this will change your life.

The video to watch.. and if you take action, it will be the
BEST thing you have done for a LONG time.

How can I know if I haven't watched it?

Well I HAVE read the pdf version of what the principle
is, done by the same person.. John Reese.

This is something I did from the pdf, and it was great..but
YOU have the advantage of hearing so watch it, do it.

But first I want you do one thing... be grateful for what
you have..

This IS one of the most powerful things you can do.

Go watch it..do it... and enjoy the rewards of the silence!

Eh? Well the silence IS where the answers are... ;o)

So watcha wanna know? How to change your life?

I KNOW the SILENCE.. and I know YOU have that stuff we call
NOISE in your head... so go take a....

BRAIN DUMP!

Make sure you have your notepad out.. a real one with a pen!

And I will tell you in the next post why you should LISTEN to
me.. and why YOU can benefit from ME being deaf!

Till then... go take a look at the video.. do it.. and come back
here...let me know.. ;o)

Be warned it will change your life!

How dare they?

Something has really annoyed me and I find it very distasteful too.

As you know I am deaf, I was born deaf.. now I have some serious
problems getting work what with half the jobs needing phone manner
or dealing with the general public, not to mention I can't hear the
fire alarms very well.. so it is unsafe to work in some environments.

So...I make a claim for disability living allowance..as I feel I AM entitled
to this extra help.

I had to get a doctors note which confirmed I was indeed born deaf.
I had to fill out a few forms explaining my disability and how it effects
my life... (as if it wouldn't).

Sent them off, waited about 9 weeks to hear from them...

Then they send me a letter denying me this help...without as much as
meeting me..or even assessing me.

How DARE they judge me without even meeting me.
How dare they say...

I am NOT deaf enough!

That STINKS.

Well I WILL appeal, I may even go as far as to take it to human rights
courts..

What do you think I should do?

Missing out again!

With the discovery of the net and it's reach to people I would
never otherwise know I felt I stepped into a whole new world.

One where it didn't matter that I am deaf...

Knowing I could read and read without missing out on any thing
was a fantastic thing for me.. knowing I could "chat" to others
online was also a massive thing to me, as I can't use a phone as
you or others would...

I was happy as pig in shit!

Now with the explosion of videos...it looks as though I will start
to miss out on good info again.

After all who is gonna put up subtitles for people like me?

No one!

Oh well... at least you can enjoy the videos and you should.

Just feel a little like it is going to all move on again and leave
people like me behind again.

Scripts are great when used properly..

Scripts like some you find on this blog like here and they are great for adding a bit of a difference to your blogs and sites etc.

They dont have to be hard to add either, just a case of adding the code to the template more often than not.. there are plenty of great free scripts out there to utilise.

I have something that will interest you here if you like scripts or would like to get into trying them.

It is a free but private membership site called "script tricks", you can only get in by invite..
and I am inviting you all to have a look and take advantage of the offer see if its good for you and your needs, after all there is no risk to you and I have learnt a few thing myself.

Unsubscribing and GLAD!

I have always been one of those who is subscribed to lots of list, not to get
all products under the sun, but to simply see what they get up to, how they
do things, what can I learn from them...

Well... since coming back online and having a fresh outlook and perspective
on things, I have to say... there is something that stands out a mile!

The bullshit and crap out there that every guru and their bloody aunt
seems to promote... well I have news...

The biggest lesson to be learnt from it all is what NOT to do!

Honestly I have to say...if these people are making money from their list
they have some naive readers.. if you are one.. sorry to be blunt.. but it IS
my opinion, and I see it over and over again.

Lets face it some Americans (meaning the general herd) buy into the hype...
hook line and sinker.. not to say it is just the Americans...
But hey it is mainly the American "gurus" that get the results from the
hype... so it MUST work on the herd they lead!

If that IS you... then its only YOU that can change that.

There are some great newsletters out there, this is NOT a bash AT
Americans.... there are some American newsletter writers I will always
read.. but there are some that are downright crap.. I mean they ARE taking
the piss out of the readers...

Is it just the Americans? NO.. but hey there are MORE of them and it IS
these that stand out.

I will stick my neck out here and say it seems the UK newletters writers are
far less hypey..and far more honest.

Why is it that the American law is trying to police the net?
Why is it they set up laws and have strict rules in certain states?
Could it due to the level of hype that the American writers put out?

The promises of easy riches!
The selling of the dream?

Could it be so bad that even they are saying woah... we gotta get grip
on this.

Is it that they realise the herd are actully naive enough to fall for it all?

Is there something I am missing?

I am glad to have clicked the unsubscribe button on a few these last few
days... I doubt I have finished yet either.

Top 700 in a week!

My squidoo sites are doing well... very well..

One is now in the top 650 out of 46,000 in a week!
Out of the other five...four are between 3,000 and
10,000... only one is outside the top 10,000.

Thats great.. ;o)

As long as I keep it up I should hit that elusive top 100!
Then the traffic should get even better.

Lenses are so simple to get going with the added benefit
of getting your sites spidered quick and often via links.

Another nights sleep lost!

Getting to be a pain at times... can't sleep or more like can't
stop "getting things moving" as the need to get up to speed
and build on where I need to go takes over...my sleep routine
is buggered right up!

But I have at least been "getting things done"..so that IS a
positive thing.

Made massive progress in a variety of ways I have at least
finsihed the new screensavers and almost finished the
new book idea...

Getting there!

Still I am also in two minds on things.. I mean I know where I
want to be, which way I want to go, but getting the results
is going to take some serious time considering how much time
I lost over the last year...

A year offline is like a bloody decade on here!!!

It has pissed me off a bit to an extent..but hey positive thinking
is the way...... so the positives..

I can more of the potential than I could before..
having had a step back from it all then coming back it has opened
my eyes some..I tell ya.

Look at youtube...geeee man..how much f******* MONEY did
they get?

Two guys in two years!!

So I do feel for me its......

Just a little slow on getting things moving as fast as I would like.

If that makes any sense....

Blog linking tips.

I will write a quick tip here..for two reasons.. you may like it..and someone on a forum has asked for advice and a little calarity..

Below is a short article.. feel free to use it as content for your blog, website on ONE condition, it cannot be changed, so you MUST also post the resource box at the bottom.

--------------------------------------

Blog linking tips for you to utilise.

Blog linking can be done in several ways, the most commom is to have a link list in the sidebar where your other websites links go, as well as sites you like, recommend etc.

Another way is to write a post which will link to a previous post you have written, this will re-energise an old blog post that gets little traffic.

Like this... ..write a post..say about blogging.. (obviously it will be longer than this... this will be inside your article.. )

------------------------

Hey I found a great site, and wondered what sort of a blogger you are..
I didn't tink my blog was that good..but hey.. computers never lie...do they?

-----------------------

See how it links DIRECTLY to the post..this is an old post..

Yet a better way is as follows...
And this post here is a perfectly good example of it in action.

I can write an article like this one you are reading.. and in it I could mention something about
a good viral concept with breaking news I found yet its is on another site, but as you see I have already linked to it in the earlier sentance.

So you have seen I have just shown a working link tip when you have more than one blog, and if you write a relevant post, article you can utilise this in your blog linking schemes.

Great tips for you to utilise your blog linking.

Rob.

P.s DONT really use this one..cos the links wont work on your site..unless you use my links..
