Adsense, beginning of the end or time to adapt

Hump and Dump!

Not girls, no! Adsense tactics! sheesh! :)

Adsense, googles monetisation model for bloggers has at one time or other been used by most of us, well it seems like things are changing lately with blogger deleting established blogspot blogs made for adsense, a couple actually.

Maybe the writing has been on the wall, well…

Yeah they may have been in the MMO (make money online) niche, then again so what, they still fulfilled the agenda of which google set… solid, fresh and unique content, the main issue in my eyes is they use blogspot so not owning it, this is a problem because google own it and if they want to delete it they can, problem with that?  It’s tough… in their view, own it or lose it.

Hypocritical in some way when they take the money from the advertiser happily while you build that damn content they monetised!

Is it the beginning of the end for adsense then?

Maybe adsense is on it’s way out, I do see less sites with it now than a year or two ago or maybe they are just going to have to change some things, let’s face it, as Dave recently commented on here “how often do you click adsense?”

Do you earn alot from it?

My guess is probably no to both!

I may say google is being a bit harsh, hypocritical in a way but as Grizz said in the comment on his making money online in 2010 post, you have to adapt, as you can’t fight them.

Grizz was the original made for adsense blog aimed at the search term “make money online” and his success was he did what he taught and shared it freely, right there on that blog itself, solid long well targeted and unique content doing as it said. ;)

This of course spawned copycats aiming at doing the same thing, in the same way, competing against him with his own advice, with even the same theme for the blogs, so you have to say, from now…

Adsense success may depend on your content and style.

Now Grizz knows this stuff regarding adsense way better than me, yet it’s not gone unnoticed by me that he removed his adsense a fair while ago, possibly why his site was still up when others went down, one of which is now reinstated.

I am glad to see that Grizz’s blog is still there because the content alone on that blog is the “must-bloody-read-all-this” kind. ;)

Reading that post he actually shared a lot of the warning bells he had go off in his own mind and what he did to deal with it, while throwing in advice for anyone out there using adsense, especially within the MMO niche.

Google don’t mind you earning, as long as you don’t talk about it, or teach others how to do the same.

That’s the main gist I get from Grizz’s post, which he slapped up recently on a break from the golf course! ;)

I only wish he did a newsletter where he could be sharing more of  what he wanted with those who know he knows he stuff, sharing what no-one Big G can’t slap him for.

Ok, so some bloggers and site owners (starting to think static sites are probably better long term with adsense) have to just accept things and adapt, but I still can’t help thinking…

Maybe it’s time adsense adapted too.

This thin site tactic is a bit of a hump an dump one, throw up blogs and some content, build backlinks, promote, leave it and doing this many times over just to find the few that work well, build on the workers, and dump the rest and it works for some, you know 100 crappy blogs earning £5 a day each is an income!

Didn’t google ask for this though?

I am sure when adsense started they didn’t want those who used it to use other ads with it, which leads to these sites centred around adsense… after all, if that’s all you could use, then you bet they were gonna do whatever to get it working good, if that meant making spammy crap that’s what alot did.

While they don’t mind you mixing things up now they are still as always vague with it all, like the recent slaps on these blogs, no warning just a bosh and no real explaination ever comes from google.

About time they started using that thing called clarity.

Be clear and a bit more transparent about what’s ok and what’s not.

Think about it… google slap sites that deliver exactly what’s asked of them by google, and they make money for the blogger and google and the advertiser.

While only one of them does the work… the (slapped) blogger!

You couldn’t make this shit up!

What are your thoughts?

It depends on your website. I find that if your website is something that attracts people from the search engines, it will get more Adsense hits than a website where you get most of your traffic from loyal visitors. Most of my clicks, even on my blogs, are from people who came from Google. As far as what I make, it has been enough to cover my domain and hosting fees for all of my sites for the year, which is really good enough for me!

  4. Think about this: when adsense is the most relevant and interesting link on the page, what gets clicked?

Google has a bit of a problem here. Spam blogs running adsense are good business for them.

I agree it is no surprise that so many sites are getting shut down which are obviously sites which have been built for Adsense with no decent information on them. Such sites are designed to make as much money as possible out of people clicking on them. However, I can see why Google would potentially be annoyed. They are associated with bad content and so are other publishers who use Google Adsense. Where Google Adsense ads are the only thing of interest on a webpage this will distort the Adsense market, resulting in potentially lower average earnings per click for everyone else so I can definitely see why Google are clamping down.

But, then what of the ones with great content on them, yet they are still built solely to make money from adsense?

I have seen them shut down too, which is a joke.

The fact is google should have thought it out better at the start, nipped that sort of thin spammy site style crap in the bud… they are happy to take money off the advertisers tho… ;)

It seems that we are stuck in a catch 22 situation with G. Following the Mayday Mahem, it looks like bounce rate is playing a greater role in the way a site ranks, so we entice readers with interesting items at the other end of an internal link… But we all know that if we put interesting links on a page then your adsense doesn’t get clicked!
So we get to choose, a site that ranks well with low adsense CTR or a site with great CTR, but no traffic! Google is throwing the baby out with the bath water!

      Hi Dave,

Your comment went to spam… you may want to go sort that out with askimet, I had to edit your comment, I do not want review links that are sales pages in your main link, sorry, so it’s edited, or nothing.

I give you something with commentluv, that’s enough, surely? :)

As for Google doing that, they are a business, so they are going to keep chopping and changing. ;)

Even if Griz were to charge for a “Griz Newsletter” I would pay. He has to be one of the more captivating writers on the internet.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with Griz’s “Make Money Online” blog. Of course I’m not Google. But still, compared to a whole lot of the cr*p you find on the web his blog was like a Pulitzer prize winning novel.

If Google only allows sites like the NY Times or CNN or Wikipedia (it hurts just to type it) to use Adsense without penalty, then their revenue will surely dry up. It is one thing to be self righteous and quite another to be suicidal.
