Thanks to (Mark @) Box.net for that fantastic news, I had a few mates say… “it’s a scam” but I laughed, can’t see that myself, after all, why would those smart buggers at box.net shoot themselves in the foot like that?

They did it for great publicity, not bad publicity, of course, it’s worked!

Seems twitter is not so useless after all!

That ONE tweet makes the whole few years Iv’e been on there worthwhile.

It certainly made my day/week/month getting that tweet.

A Samsung galaxy tab

I am looking forward to getting this prize and seeing what I can do with it, I do have a few ideas and also what I said in the tweet that won it, as seen in the tweet you see here… one other thing I can enjoy is ebooks, as good as a kindle really, (like kindles? look at the sidebar!) >> – as you can do more with it, I read alot, so this will be great at times when I am not doing anything, on the bus for example.

So, once I have it…

… I will do a review of it here, and depending on the set up, IE I imagine (fingers crossed) I get a box.net account loaded onto it too, which will be great for the all important files I can share with it, photos etc I can then do a double review… one of the product and one of what is loaded on there I find useful.

I have the free box.net account already I am sure.  I will share my experience with box.net’s great tools, I think it’s something I should have used before really but never had the chance to dive into it, that will change.

Box.net ?

What is Box.net? A file storage and sharing set up, it could even be used for FTP, which is what you use to upload files to a website etc.  Ideal for the blogs if needed.

Cloud storage as it’s called, IE nothing needs to be stored on your pc / lappy, which means you can access it on ANY device you use, a friends lappy for example, just log in and use, one good thing is you can use it for big files, sometimes files can be to big for email say, so you upload it to Box.net and share the link, ideal.

Obviously there are limits with the free accounts, which is worth having, but should you need more, or unlimited even then that is possible.

Android

Hearing good things about android and the many apps it has, I can utilise my google account on that so that will be handy, I am sure my amazing youngest son will also enjoy playing any games he finds on that, he just got a samsung android phone for his birthday, so I’m sure he already has a few in mind, to be honest when I saw that tweet, I thought it was a phone, so to see what the tab really was just excited me more.  A double woot if ya like!

My amazing son number two is 16 today… Happy birthday son, where the heck did that 16 years go…

I am so proud of you and what you are setting yourself out to be, do in life.

You certainly know what you want to do and I don’t doubt you will do it too.

Seems google updated the PR (Google page rank) across sites and my main two here and the Portland Bill blog have been dropped a place, largely due to me not being so active the last two months or so, rather than anything else, no biggie, it will go back up soon enough but PR is largely irellevant if you don’t regularly add content, as it’s content that gets readers, not PR.

By the way, a few people mentioned they wanted updates as they happen, best way is to subscribe using RSS and the icon is on the top right of the sidebar >> over there.

People come for content, not to see what ya PR is and that is what counts.

If you have been effected, just don’t panic and worry over it, who cares really? If google are doing what they say they are, cleaning up the sewers as splork (of lost ball in high weeds) calls it, then I am sure many of the crappy sites that were hindering yours, mine whatever are being dumped so to speak, so if anything we gain in some respects. Not all negative this shit you know.

The main thing being the content being unique itself, that’s not a problem here or on my other blogs as I do write it all myself, that will always be a good thing.

Had a shitty few months I have, mind you the last two or three weeks were just crap, so it can only get better from here, can’t it?

Plenty of crap pissing me off at the moment but can’t do much other than roll with it. One thing is there are a few people who have pushed me a little too far and they will regret that, assholes.

So, at least I am now back online having had to get a new connection, not great timing but that’s sods law!

I am looking forward as it’s all I can do. Else I’ll go nuts!

While I had no connection I started drawing again, and even given painting a go. which I never really tried in all honesty, it’s a release and if the pics are crap, I can always do more.

Damn, been a while since I posted, been a while since I did anything, lazy bugger eh… I have to say some of the comments that were left in pending were pathetic… sorry but no, I won’t be adding ya crappy one liners with some shitty link, though I have to say not one spam bot, due to the great antispam plug in… it works a treat!

I had that hearing test (see last post) and yep, got worse, in fact I have lost hearing completely in some frequency range… ie, some high pitched sounds have vanished, will never hear certain things again… at least it’s quieter!

What a crazy world… one thing is for sure, 2011 is going to be an interesting year, we will be seeing some strange stuff, which as we know is already happening.

Listening to the “experts” regarding all the strange goings on in the world is just comical… all the animals dying suddenly, being blamed on stupid things like “eating to much” or “fireworks” or “drinking too much water” … do they really think we are that stupid?

They must do!!

Experts and scientist are full of shit and always have been. . . like they are about “the big bang” what a load of bollox, just theories that are as good as the amount of sheeple to believe it…  The big bang… um, where was that when it happened?

Sorry? In the middle of nothing, um, nothing can’t exist without something, just as something can’t exist without nothing… prove me wrong!

Anyway … all these odd things happening in the world at the moment, such alot in so few weeks that the scientist are baffled but they don’t like to admit that because they are “supposed” to be smarter than everyone else, which itself is bollox, they are biased, always were and always will be.

Religious nuts are also baffled but saying it is gods revenge … ok, did god tell you that?

Religion is fairy tales imo.

I don’t know what the hell is going on, maybe the mayans were right… not the end of the world but it’s the end of an age.

Time is speeding up but not in the sense we see time, it’s creation that’s speeded up, we are creating such alot in such short time-frames it’s hard to ignore it, it isn’t anything to do with time speeds up as we get older anyway, I have heard teens say “is time speeding up or something?” … You never heard that sort of thing from teens in the 80′s or 90′s.

Maybe it is the fact the poles are shifting, and they are, look at the moon too, it’s not looking the same as it was, the man is wonky… seems alot of scientist ie know-it-alls will be wearing egg on their faces this year, telling everyone that we are silly to believe things like that, yet they expect us to take their word as gospel, yeah right… of course you can’t be wrong because you have some qualifications and your fellow know-it-alls agree with you.  :rolls eyes:

Fear, the powers that be’s biggest tool, the only way the few can manipulate and control the many, yet they say non of this is happening because they don’t want people to “panic” ?? Hypocrites, but, does that mean this IS something going on?

I wonder if much of what is happening is man made, ie weapons, HAARP, bluebeam, whatever. Maybe not all of it but maybe they did one thing and that let the genie out of the bottle.

One thing we all know for sure is it’s getting hard to ignore the things that are going on around us, it’s hardly isolated cases is it, several places in the world are seeing odd stuff.

Hoping friends I have are all ok down under where floods have raged big time, sad to see so much destruction and lives ruined.

Anyway, gonna be back to writing stuff again as I have slacked something rotten over the last few months, just not had my head in the right frame to do anything really, getting used to the hearing issues I have had, though I accept it won’t get any better I just gotta get on with it and cope, plenty of people worse off than me out there.

Shitty ears, aka being deaf…

Well, it could always be worse. It does have it’s plus points too.

For me things are getting worse, sadly, been a crappy few weeks really which explains my lack of being busy anywhere… as friends have noticed.

Seems my ears are getting a bit worse, having dropped a bit the last 5 or 6 weeks, the problem is I have less hearing to lose, so I have more to lose if that makes sense?

I know my friend Serena will berate me, saying “sign of getting old” … I hear ya Serena! … pardon the pun!

It probably IS age related. Oh well. I’ll get by, always have.

But for the first time …

I am at the stage where I am in need of help in some cases, it’s got to the point I can’t hear the damn doorbell at times.

I never been one to let my crap ears beat me, as anyone who knows me knows, I have never been out the the “hearing world”, that IS my world, I grew up just like anyone else, getting on with it and I felt no different in many senses than any of my mates.

I insisted on talking using my mouth and not my hands!

Nothing wrong with signing, it was just something I never did and right from an early age I just “fitted in” you could say … I made it clear at 5 years old where I stood.

Lip-reading and talking was just swell for me.

The “deaf world” as they call it was never part of my world, I was never part of theirs. Just the way it was, is.

My mum just let me get on and she did the right thing too in my mind, she has always wanted me to be just like anyone else and getting on with it, being “normal” in a sense…. thanks mum!

Neither good nor bad, just how life has been for me, mum never joined me up to RNID or anything like that so I never really saw deaf people or their world.

Being part of an island community no doubt helped, the fact we have ONE senior school meant everyone knew me and I knew everyone else and we all knew what the crack was … the ears never really came into it, only the few idiots made it anything.

But … with age comes it’s own issues!

Rewinding back to when I was 25, I woke up one morning and slapped the hearing aid in, on … nothing!

WTF! … scared me big time, I was sharing a house in north Dorset with a friend and working in Yeovil at the time, so anyway, I told my mate and then set off for work, driving in silence was eerie!

Getting to work and not hearing the yards normal noises hit it home for me… I told my boss and left to go to get checked out at the ENT (ear, nose, throat) dept of the hospital …

I was never the same after that.

I had scans and tests at the Southampton university for weeks on end… my hearing had permanently dropped some, and I just had to get used to what it was…

Funnily enough, when I had the brain and ear scan I fell asleep in that bloody great noisy scanning machine they have at hospitals… the guy told me it had never happened before… sigh, it was so quiet and I had to be so still.

Nothing was found wrong with me (stop sniggering at the back!) and the path seemed to be leading to having a cochlea implant …

I decided not to in the end, guessing correctly that hearing aids would improve, three years later I got digital ones. Also at the time of considering it, there were little kids behind me in the waiting list and I felt my chance would be better given to one of them.

My hearing had dropped alot, from that morning of nothing some gradually come back over the months, but never at the same level again. Music changed forever.

Now, it’s happened again… got a hearing test in December… not that I need it myself to know what the reality is, it’s mainly to assess the drop.

Shit times!

Could be worse though!

Always someone who got it worse out there.

But the lack of real support in many cases out there for deaf is shocking. Of all the sense losses and disabilities we seem to be pretty low down on the support list.

I have been in touch with RNID but you know you gotta pay to be a member?

That’s not right in my view, and it’s just my view, it should be free!

Anyway, that’s how things lie with me at the moment, been a crap few weeks and not looking great in the long term considering it gets worse with age.

See what happens, nothing is gonna be the way it was.

So, that’s partly why I have been quiet lately, just not been up to any of this.

Just a quick post…

Enjoying the last of the good weather over the end of the summer and the nice sunsets it reminded me of some of the pictures I have, that are worthy of dressing walls…  I think so, anyway.

So, I am sorting that out and hoping to see some grace your walls… Taste permitting, of course.

A simple gallery page added to this site, or even the Portland Bill one, or both, would probably do the job nicely, so that’s on the “to do” list now, having found a good printers to get things rolling, all depends on who it turns out but it’s something I would like to do more of. Can ya blame me, living here?

The sizes will vary, just need to get that organised.

Some will be limited … a certain number in a certain size.

More importantly though…

I need to make it as hands free as possible, that is automate it as much as I can allowing me to get on with other things, like writing for the blogs and marketing it all.

The key is to get it to the point where it’s 100% automated, after all, that’s better for me allowing me more time to just get great pictures, knowing the pictures are still being sold, delivered and people are happy.

I won’t just limit it to pictures for walls though, I think it’s worth using one of the many services out there which allow you to add pictures to lot’s of different apparel, mugs, t-shirts, hooded tops, table-mats, mouse mats, fridge magnets, even aprons …  that sort of thing.

It may well make some nice Christmas presents for someone you know.

That’s the next thing for the “to-do” list. Keep an eye out for that update…

WTF?! Why?

How much food did you waste this week?

I saw a woman dump a BIN BAG of food in a skip! (Bloody seagulls though!!! They are out of hand!  )

Yet, we have it easy… until the food chain breaks, then the shit hits the fan, think we could cope? That’s here in the “modern world” where have it “easy” and “set up” ready 24/7, just throw your cash at them and you can have whatever you like, right there, right then.

Elsewhere though …

Makes you think doesn’t it… how sad to see such defenceless children in this day and age… snack food for the vultures!!

Sick, and we all sit by and allow this shit to happen?

We all sit by and watch our own countries take take take … make make make … before you say, “oh we give to other countries who need help”… they shouldn’t BE in that position, there is enough in the world for all.

It was enough to haunt the man who took this picture, he killed himself, and yet, here we are in the world all want, want, want, want… GREED has no real place in life really… disagree?

You know the truth that is … The kindest people are the poorest … says alot doesn’t it?

They are rich in the right way… being rich is not measured with money! Pity the fool who thinks it is!

Why are our greed glands so easily pumped?

Baffles me really but hey ho, what a fucked up world we live in!

People throwing food away while others end up in bellies of vultures! Makes ya puke!

Really though… what do you think would happen to our own society if suddenly the electric stopped on a huge scale, it effects everything, most noticeably the food chain. It would be chaos!

Why do we take it for granted so much then? We take power and food, water all for granted.

Like that woman throwing a whole bin bag of food away, even had tins full, I knew that due to the seagulls having a damn good try at picking them up.  But, to throw out all that food… Why?

Those who are self sufficient don’t seem so daft now do they?

They have the real thing, freedom, freedom to live as they want knowing they are not relying on others, if all else screws up, they can eat! They can probably generate their own power too.

The problem is extremes, babies being food for vultures, while fat woman throw bags of food away, we seems to have such extremes like that in this day and age!

In the world wars I bet those two extremes were non existent, the gap between extremes in all areas has widened massively, make you wonder if we are going backwards! When society has to be sensible with things it can… when greed kicks in though, that’s out of the window.

I have to ask, with so much “rooftop” coverage, why isn’t every house covered with solar panels? Put all that coverage together and that’s a HUGE area, all generating sustainable power, a small yet important bit of self sufficiency, live sustainably and you know, it mounts up.

Grow your own food too if you can, I would!

Above all, don’t overshop, then throw food away, I try hard to make sure I never throw food away, I shop like a bloke, in, select shit, out.

It bemuses me when I see panic shopping in supermarkets, people needlessly filling trolleys up with crap, in fear of missing out on food, just because the shop shuts for two days! Pathetic! Then to cap it off, they throw out what they couldn’t eat before the use by dates.

Idiots! The lot of them! They should wake up.

The world really is out of kilter. We all need to pull the extremes in, get onto a beneficial, common narrower path.

I have myself been getting back into reading feeds more in my Greader since turning off the “community” side of it if with comments and shares being a nuisance rather than a good thing… much better silent, the authors sole “view” and having any “commenting” and discussions going on in buzz.

Back, or were you reading the feed and missed it?

RSS reader or email?

The thing with feed readers is you can consume far more content in the time used, no clicking out of the window from one blog to the next, just read it right there, then read the next blogs fresh post, then the next all in the same window… unless you have short feeds, those of you who do, you miss out on readers.

The odd thing is that not as many people use readers as we think, I am talking about the real friends you have in your everyday life, unless a geek!

They simply don’t read lots of stuff, they don’t need a reader, at all.

Which is why I feel email subscription works best for the everyday friend, many of whom don’t even know what an RSS reader is!

If they only check their email once a day, they will see the subscription and get all the fresh post(s) made since the last email.

Email for the good stuff and reader for the rest

I am starting to read more of the blogs post I have subscribed to by email than I have before and I am starting to think the stats in the reader are going to be interesting in how they show which blogs I always read and it’s only those I sub to by email.

Soon it will be all email subs and the reader used for “everything else” – Gmail is already a big central for me, so why not use it better and having “labels” and filters makes it simple, now gmail have added a “priority inbox” too … which knowing Gmail will get more intuitive over time.

As I’ve mentioned previously, newsletters for me are being read less, while blog feeds for me are on the rise, yet there are a few newsletters I always read, these newsletters I have read for years and they will still show up as important in gmail, so I miss nothing I want to see.

Gmail is becoming the central portal to my online experience more, it’s email. Email works. Email is universally understood.

All habits change, if we change them

Habits are changing for me. On and offline.

Habits, breaking bad ones and creating good ones, hard to break, easy to make.

We all have them… online as much as off, some get up, turn on their pc, check emails, then stats for overnight, then feeds, whatever …

Some do their site work if needed, then read news, then check forums, then twitter … etc

Others fire up facebook … not much else

For me it’s about cutting out the mix of habits that connect, overlap, smoking I have to give up and I often light one up while … reading!

Not good, hence me wanting to change some habits, create new ones, and generally improve things all around, as it’s this collection of habits that make up the experience.

Email subs for me are making an improvement, the reader just fills up with feeds just a mess really, auto filling as and when things are posted … most not so important that I need to dive in and pruning and filtering that lot out will make a massive difference, simple with the stats telling you all you need to know … then email sub to the best, done. I can then read at leisure any/all post within one email and when I am less likely to smoke anyway.

If I judge by that criteria, then if you have, or do sub to this blog by email, I am flattered. As a thanks, I’ll send you that free book.

Gotta laugh, a few words can make a picture!

A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say…

But what about adding words as well …

What a difference a few words can really make to a picture, it’s no wonder they get viral quickly and easily … the more innocent or innocuous the picture that better the words could fit.

Alot to be said for a Sense of humour

The above one cracked me up… enough for me to make it my desktop background for a while, always good to start the session off with a chuckle, or two. Whoever did this one spotted a good one.

It’s interesting the different roles humour plays in our live … for all of us differently, how we use humour etc. Funny shit… pardon the pun!

Bottom line is …

Without humour, what have you got?

Not a lot.

As they say, “you can either laugh or cry” which in a sense really nails it, not that it’s literally, IE, you probably won’t cry, but it’s the point it makes …

“Laughter is the best medicine” – as we’ve all heard too.

What’s interesting to me is that laughter is a pretty much a human trait … so it’s gotta be important.

Writing with a little of it matters, it seems to make some difference and yet it also gets some interesting response, going by two emails about the Missy magic post, one went as far as to say, you two need to get a room!

Just as a side-note -Thanks for that, but if you knew us then you’d know that is never going to happen, we are just weird with the humour… maybe just weird full stop. but another thing is I don’t think you could get a room big enough to fit her personality into and me, for too long!

It’s friendship, a funny thing – I have been learning surprising things about it all myself… more recently even too, some friendships with the opposite sex are worth far more than is the risk of losing, there is no value in that risk at all – say as in the case of me and missy! She would agree with that too… I experienced the cost of that myself with someone (NOT missy, silly!) a few weeks back, some know what I mean.  ;-)

Humour is a powerful thing …

I know it makes an amazing defence mechanism too … in several ways., it can shatter barriers, change the atmosphere, influence people and more importantly situations.

It can mask insecurities, whatever they may be.

The only problem is we all have unique humour, and humour is also geolocated too … meaning humour is influenced by where you grow up. It’s so clear when you see jokes that go right over peoples heads, sarcasm, irony, innuendos, etc, can be completely missed. Funny in itself! But unavoidable!

Have you heard about … ?

So, what are you putting out with your humour?

Get someone laughing, how does it make you feel? More importantly how does it make them feel? How much does it influence the way they feel about you?

After all, that’s yours, it’s unique, how is it playing out a role in your life? How do you share it? How do others “remember you” when you not with them?

It’s not funny you know, it’s worth thinking about.

It’s what really differentiate us from animals. Understanding humour is important, wouldn’t you say?

The attraction factor

What makes us attractive, why do some people attract each other, is beauty skin deep … what makes something/someone attractive or worthy etc… what are the properties we should be looking for in other people we choose to surround ourselves with, in whatever capacity.

So many questions Missy!

Men are shallow… ya right missy! Well apart from this blurk… as you say!

The truth is, we are all wired this way, you ladies too, that’s fact and no point fighting it, we would all do well to accept it.

But what an interesting thought process we started on facebook faceache, one that no doubt all of us think about at times… mostly when we are young, when we have no real idea as the lack of experience is telling.

It often takes us several relationships to know where you “fit in” IE, “she/he is out of my league” is often said, it’s an important factor in life too.

Who chooses where we fit?

We do… we work this out over the course of a few relationships, even though every relationship is unique it’s often that we find patterns, we all know that is a truth, some girls always go out with assholes, different assholes but assholes all the same… some guys always choose ditzy blondes, or fiery redheads… whatever!

Is beauty really skin deep?

In a word, YES on meeting… that is we make up that decision faster than we know… blink of an eye is all it takes most of the time, most men don’t know it, but it’s not just the beauty of the girl, it’s often the unconscious notion of have beautiful offspring, likewise women also take into consideration the gene factor… but more often than men, they are aware of it and more consciencley choose.

It’s not a coincidence that women usually instigate divorce after a longish marriage, the kids are grown somewhat… chances are the man is not attractive to them like they were… IE you got the gorgeous kids, so now you want to have an attraction for you… not for a genetic reason…  selfish reasons, yes but completely understandable.

What makes us attractive

100 men could look at the same gorgeous women and all find her attractive, yet all will find something different that’s attractive about them…

So many things make the difference with all of us, far too many to name, the truth is, it’s small things, we can see the beauty in everyone, it may be just a small thing that captures the eye, more often than not I find hands a big part of attractiveness, may seem odd, but hey ho I AM odd!

Nothing worse then seeing lovely ladies with manky hands, manky nails.. no thanks! They ain’t touching my… oh wait, let’s not go there!

With the ladies, 100 women could look at one good looking man and of them, 30% won’t even like him… the rest all to varying degrees for various reasons, some won’t even see him!

Ladies.. go into a bar filled with men and you will agree many of them men are almost invisible to you, yet with men, they scan the room different, they see all the women, then ignore most…

A bit of a difference there wouldn’t you say?

Many would say, Missy, you got stunning eyes, or a gorgeous smile… or cracking jugs…

Me, I say all of them lol… but I know you, I know what is the main factor with you… your personality, or more accurately, your crazy sense of humour… you drag the Kenny Everett out of everyone!

This largely in my mind depends on where you are in the circle of life, your age, if you have kids (their age too) the kind of things you like doing, all these circumstances effect it, without us even thinking about it at times but the question is a good one, certain people do attract certain people, that saying “opposites attract” must have some merit… Yin and Yang… Chalk and cheese… Missy and me.

Back off Missy!! Oh,  just a little bit, so I can gaze…

The key for me is, what is it you need from a relationship, that should be the bearing on who you attract, who can give you that…

Who can make you feel the way you need to feel, rather than want, as they are close but the results can be a gulf…

I can’t think of this as a cut and dry thing, we change, things change, what attracts us changes, what we see as attractive in others changes… nothing stays the same, ever! (apart from my youthful looks!)  :lol: …

What should we be looking for in other people

That depends on too many things, but there is one basic truth, you don’t… when you look for it, you never find it.

What I’d say is, what can you offer that others who you would like to attract will notice…

The stupid thing is attraction works like buses, nothing happens for a while, then two or three people start liking you… why?

Because people want what they can’t bloody have, that is why some people try “stealing” other peoples women, blokes, the chase all just to confirm to their own little minds that they can, regardless of the pain they cause others… they don’t care, sadly.
