No Ope
No Ope

Blimey, I notice something that effects most of us online as most of us use it, I’m talking of a search engine, the one nearly all of us use, Google.

I mean, most people say I’ll google that when it comes to finding anything online, can’t remember hearing anyone use anything else.

Website owners work to “rank” their pages, post, content, so they show in the search for the keyword terms they target.

So it effects us all but…

Have you used it lately? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

It’s nearly all adverts, the organic things like peoples own sites and blogs and such are way down the page most of the time. The original reason google started was to index the web and that was every website.

Remember their motto? Don’t do evil. ๐Ÿ˜† Really?

Google just got too big I think.

They are killing the organic search results in favour of adverts, understandable wanting adverts and the income they bring. But sure looks to me like it’s killing the relevance from it.

We don’t all want to only see results from the biggest branded companies, (biggest paying too) creating the continued monopoly they all have. Surely?

I don’t … do you?

Like seeing only a few brands of shops in the streets and the diversity killed off. We already see that kind of thing with the supermarkets taking the lions share of the income in all areas and the effects that has on high streets.

This is the same online. . .ย But what can we do about it?

Start using a different search engine… one that does what google did when it started.

I speak of DuckDuckGo and it’s a nice neat clean interface, doing exactly what we want from a search engine without all the adverts. Try it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What about us website owners, well, see where your own site ranks in that search engine for your keyword terms. and start working on what will improve it, it’s similar things to what you do when you optimised for google I expect, well, I am guessing, time will tell, it looks that way to me though. It surprised me actually. ๐Ÿ™‚

Except you wont have to worry like crazy over anything google does that changes things overnight… as they so often do.

The more people that use DuckDuckGo the bigger they become and hopefully more relevant they stay, that will help us all and stop many of us suffering at Googles hands.

Go check it out… again DuckDuckGoย is the one I will be using from now.

How about you?
