WTF!!! Call yourself a team!?
Well, that’s all the Italians out of the world cup, the last remaining one taking us with them…
Mind you, playing that crap England don’t deserve it, but at least we can hold out heads higher than the French, who were a disgrace.
We defended terribly, way to far up the field while 2-1 down, the whole team bar the keeper (James) were in their half and we couldn’t produce shit with it… way to go lads!
Where do we go from here then?
The premiership league
English English English
That’s clear enough eh?
Stop flooding the premiership with overseas players for a start and start getting more English players upping their skills, something they are not getting a fair crack at, either that or start utilising players that are on form regardless of what league or where they play.
Yes the premiership IS the best league out there and it’s partly because of that we can attract some of the top players in the world, yes it’s partly the best league because we have the best players here but there is far to many in all the teams.
Arsenal set the alarm bells ringing a long while ago by fielding a team with NO English players… that should simply never have been allowed to happen and yet nothing was changed either.
We need to limit the number of non English players on the field in every game.
English manager too
I hate to say it, as a spurs supporter, but the English manager should be our manager… Harry Redknapp, in my opinion.
At least the manager should be English again, and if not Harry, Roy Hodgson of Fulham would be a good bet, Stuart Pearce being the long term aim while also keeping him involved with the younger England players as he did with U 21′s but it needs to be more intensely nurtured from 14 years onwards I think.
We need a better long term system, these academies like Beckham has, we need these for England and we need them asap if haven’t already, we need them working with the clubs too!
Wage caps
Let’s face it, the money involved with these prima donna players is ridiculous, how can one player be worth so many nurses? Something seriously fucking wrong there!
Sort it out, get a cap on wages and that would have to be Europe wide to conform with their laws, or sod that, just do it because these laws in the European “sense” are pretty stupid, we should be able to set our own rules and laws on these things as they are an English issue, not European, the premiership is not European!
The money is a big factor in what has ruined the the pure pleasure of playing for club and country, this is obvious when you see players choosing clubs based on the wage… like any sane person would I guess… sadly.
In the past footballers always earned a decent wage but it was only decent in the working man’s perception, it’s all proportion, they didn’t earn a vastly bigger wage, like a working man earning £300 a week now seeing them earn £1000 a week, that kind of margin of “extra”… if it was like that now we wouldn’t say anything!
But ask any working man these days about the wages these days and they would all say it’s ridiculously overblown, rightly so… £100,000 a week IS ridiculous!!
Don’t you agree?
What do you think we should do to improve things?
As for the remainder of the World Cup…

On your last point – The Dutch were a heck of a team, but after watching Spain beat them and Germany, I couldn’t believe for a second anyone had any doubts about Spain’s greatness. They consistently looked like the more athletic team, almost always threatening, very active, terrific defense, and some pinpoint passes that were just breathtaking.

The Dutch were good, the only unbeaten side, to think that their manager’s only loss is a world cup final… that’s nuts.
Spain were in a class of their own in many ways, their passing is breathtaking, they deserved it, it was a victory for football because the Dutch shot themselves in the feet.
They didn’t believe they could win, so set about kicking lumps out of them, shame, because I think if Holland had played as they had before and just believed in that, they would have won, in my opinion.
Saying that, Spain are worthy winners.
I defer to you – I don’t know too much about football. Thanks for the info: didn’t know all that about the Dutch team.

In a way I wanted Holland to win from the start, let’s face I KNEW we were never going to win it… and Holland have always played good football, they now been to 3 finals and lost the lot, my opinion is they never played the finals in the same manner as what got them there, each time.
Total football… getting there and then negative football to try and win it? Odd stuff!!
They along with Spain were the biggest underachievers for the talent they had, no longer the case for Spain.
