17 years ago on St Patrick’s day something magical happened…
My Eldest son Jacob was born, reluctantly too, he was 3 weeks late and seemed to be a little too comfortable really. :D
The magical moment when I helped with the delivery, in the background “glory box” by Portishead was playing on the radio… the irony was not lost on us.
5.25PM was the magical moment the world was graced with such a beautiful baby. He was good as gold and smiled up at us on that special day, being late the midwife said he was already 3 weeks old really at the time of the birth, so it didn’t seem unusual to see him smiling up at his mum and dad.
Now he is nearly a man and a man I (and I’m sure, his mum too) am very proud of.
Nothing is so moving as seeing your first child arrive in the world, the second does come very close to it though, and yes, I bawled like a baby at the time with pride and relief that all was well, holding him in my arms I never felt anything remotely like it.
For me, one thing was he heard me, although it was very very unlikely any of our children would have hearing problems, simply because I was not technically deaf, it was caused by rubella when my mum was pregnant with me, so nothing is hereditary about it… still, I couldn’t help feeling relief, as you can imagine.
And here we are, 17 years later, in what seems the blink of an eye. ;)
Life as a man has started for Jacob, being at college and setting himself up for finding his way in the world in whatever vocation he chooses at the end of the college period.
Naturally, he is prising himself away from us, his parents, like any late teenager does when they leave school and start finding their feet…
So, it’s a huge Happy birthday to you Jacob, never forget I am and always will be here for you no matter what happens in life, nothing can change that.
I am so proud to be your dad, so proud to say you are my son and I wish you all the success and happiness you deserve in life, as a man.
I love you with all my heart J and I always will.
Dad. X

Thanks Tracey…
Much appreciated.
Rob, I loved reading this. My kids are the light in my life. They are all grown now with children of their own, but I am amazed still at what wonderful people they have turned out to be. I can not take any credit for the adults they have become, but I still feel blessed at all the gifts they have given me. They are truly a gift from God.

Here I was complaining because my daughter was 3 days late!
She [Amanda] just turned 17 on the 12th. Hard to believe so much time has passed.
Happy Belated Birthday to Jacob!

Hey Anne.
Lol… yeah, after two weeks we were both getting a little worried, well, the mrs was getting stressed lol… but she did have to be induced which was not nice nut we got a healthy son from the result and wouldn’t change anything.
Happy belated birthday to Amanda too.
Yeah it is a bit scary how fast all that time went by.
And a big congrats on your recent degree.
