My 5 word plan of action for 2010

I had a nice email from a friend but it also ended with a question : What's ya plans for the year then Rob?

Well everyone knows the saying... "fail to plan, plan to fail" and yet, more importantly, is writing the damn thing down, you know on real paper, with a real pen, by hand.
Not something that happens much these days, writing for real, sadly... I digress.

The email got me thinking about it more, as I had been battling with myself over it anyway.

In the past a plan may have been made for the year ahead, at this time of the year more so then a short, medium term one, though they are all important as we know, planning goals, resolutions to stick to, that sort of thing, not necessarily business plans, could be a lose weight plan for example.

I had never really been that good at plans, goals, I mean I was unsure, now I know because the reality tells me it's so.

But I needed to make plans, plans on what to regrading blogs etc, how to use the time and what to implement.

I needed to make plans for me too, plans on life.

About time I did something different, mainly because I find plans and such a little difficult to follow at times, or goals seem to big to reach, all leading to frustration and often it can build up into a snowball situation where I fail completely.

Maybe you feel you have done that yourself before, none of us always get things right anyway.

It's ok to fail...at times, depending on what it is, how big it is...for me at the moment it isn't ok.

But as Henry Ford said : Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.

So, I had to consider it to be useless doing it the same old way, something needed changing so I got thinking about how why it fails, and how I could approach it different, what would make the difference?

Some say and I have probably said it, but it obviously didn't work for me well, you should set small attainable goals along the way, taking bite sized chunks of the big picture, but then I though doing x in x days is doing exactly that...and it doesn't work for me.

For ex...

If I was overweight and needed to lose lots of it.. ( thankfully I am perfick don't ;o) ) previously I'd have written "lose x amount by x date, say a year" and possibly more goals with shorter time spans with less loss amount, monthly say and then failing to reach the 1st month goal, getting bothered, then failing the 2nd month...and so on.

See how it can snowball into one big screw up and the end of the year you are no better, or if anything only slightly better than the year before.

Maybe not to that extreme, but you get the gist, easily done that... wouldn't you agree?

So I realised I approached a badly thought out plan in the wrong way, losing half the plan before it's started.

I needed to do something, this just bothered me in some ways and I know you have to make plans of a sort...yet I clearly needed to also do it different than I had before.

Setting an overall plan of action for everything, like all blogs?
Do plans for each?
What about plans for me, personal plans?
And how to plan them if they are to be different in order for me to get it right?

For some reason I kept thinking about "internal and external goals, input and output" without really knowing why I was thinking it, then the words "break it down" came to mind, like a mathematical sum that's using big numbers which needed fractioning.

So maybe that's it, break it down to the smallest aim and underpin everything with that aim.

So, for life goals, personally the main broken down aim this year is to... get healthy

For blogging goals I have simply broken it down to... monetise my words

Everytime I now do something I ask myself... "does this fit my aim" so leading me in the right direction?

That means I feel guilty each time I smoke, I am in fact putting myself off smoking more and more.

Each time I write a post I ask myself ... "is there any potential monetisation" in what I am writing.

That means everything I write matters, if it is not worth doing I won't do it.

I have no idea if this will work better for me than previously because I have never done it this way before but it simplified things a great deal for me, lowered the analysis of everything I do.

Have you done things this way before? If so, did it work for you?
If not...
How do you do it?

"Time to reflect, then plan ahead"

Not long till 2008 passes us by and 2009 kicks in, the years are going fast the space between pondering the last year and looking forward to the next are getting closer, so it seems!

Time waits for no man!
Where better to contemplate the last year and consider the next year than here?

As the sun sets on 2008 do you feel you achieved the goals, resolutions you set out this time last year?

If you did, great, if not, maybe consider the size of the goals and time you set to achieve them, it's one reason resolutions don't work well, 9 times out of 10 they are spontaneous and set just because "people set them."

"Gonna give up smoking, Jan 1st" is quite common, but how hard is that to achieve?
Most likely you cave in on Jan second, then you have failed....that's it, you don't bother after that.

Better to say...

"I will give up by the end of Jan" then plan to do that, set it out so you can cut down in stages over that month, this way even if you don't quite make it, you may have gone a long way to it, like cutting down a by 3/4 of what you were smoking.

This way you are much more likely to carry on trying, not think you failed.
Well you certainly won't think, "ah well, almost did it" then start smoking more will you?

If you have to make a resolution, at least make it realistic. :o)

Goals are a bit different I think, at least any goal you set out can be good, no matter how small, if it's progressive in some way to moving you forward it's good.

If you set out a main goal, aim high, this will make you more motivated to try, and if you don't make the stars, at least you hit the clouds.

But plan for the clouds...have step goals which lead you in the right direction, each small goal reached is motivation and proof of progress.

It's been a topsy turvy year for myself, but there are lessons in everything for us to take away.

I have to say it wasn't a great year for me in some ways, but in looking back it's cleared alot of the "fog" in my mind in the plans I had set out in 2008, and in turn has made 2009 a much clearer path for me.

The most important thing of all is your health and family.

THAT was my biggest lesson of 2008!

Without those...it's doesn't matter what happens, you can win the lotto, have all the money in world, realise all the dreams you can make, anything you could want would be worthless!

For me the main goals for 2009 are to strengthen my own family links, bonds, as they are the number one priority and the other to better my health, if there is one thing I have learnt, sitting in front a PC too much ain't good for ya! :o/

I have set one goal to take more photos, one a day at least because it really is a good way of getting out and about and staying fit and with so much to capture out there it will be fun!

There are other goals I have set myself, one is to go full time online asap! :o)

I can see 2009 being the year everything changes a bit online with the rise of social sites etc.

It has levelled the playing field alot more than it was just a few years ago.

What lessons can you take from 2008?
Have you set goals for 2009?

"Social networking mastered"

Exciting times for you bloggers who actively use social networking, but only if you understand it and use it the right way.

Web 2.0 was what I had been eagerly waiting for, being deaf you can probably understand why. ;o)

Being a blogger meant it never passed me by, as blogging was part of interactivity (web.2.0) before the phrase web 2.0 was even coined, yet now it is making a big difference to my blogs, as well as me. ;o)

Believe it or not there are still lots of people who don't know what web 2.0 even means, or have yet to even hear of it.
Web 2.0 = better interactivity. ;o)

Using web 2.0 (social sites, etc) is the best thing you can possibly start doing if you are a blogger or website owner, after all you are already a part of it. ;o)

In my eyes the best way to get traffic to your blog, more so if it's a new blog is using the power of social networking, bookmarking sites etc.

Maximise what you have before getting more traffic and you get to make the most of the new traffic too, yes?
That's what I have been doing, and it works for me well, so now I started to think of ways to increase my traffic.

So I had a great surprise when I grabbed this new report, book, pdf, whatever label you give it and this book just reinforced the fact what I am already doing is the right things in the right way, but I can still do better... ;o)

While I already knew a fair bit of what this shares, (being a blogger almost 4 years made sure of that), it gave me new angles to look at what I already do and plan to do.

These new angles I can promise you will make a big difference to what I had planned anyway...great to see your own plans and ideas from another angle...it expands it. ;o)

While some people will look at things from a "will this make me more money" angle, the key to everything online is traffic, and more traffic can mean more money, right? ;o)

To me the traffic increase is what most people need, even if no intention to monetise that traffic is there, people still want more readers, right?

Of course, so I recommend everyone grab this report, read it and master it. ;o)

The biggest thing I can say is I KNOW it works because I have had success with it and I KNOW web.2.0 is what you should learn more about, even if you have no blog yet.
You are online, you use web 2.0!

Grab it, share your thoughts in the comments. ;o)

"Normal(ish), untill christmas"

The summer end is approaching but we are having some nice weather here, the kids are back in school, the usual routine again, and mums and dads everywhere breathe a sigh to catch their breath again. :o)

A chance to get a little time to themselves and plan ahead, prepare for the coming season changes, slowly. ;o)

A nice time to pop to the beach for a breather...

Spot the people?

And further around it goes...for 19 miles!!

Bring ya fishing rod and take your spot.
Plenty of room. ;o)

Beautiful eh?

Sept has hit us and now is the time to start planning what you have in store with your life, work, blogging.

You are planning to take advantage of seasonal things, aren't you? ;o)

Halloween comes up, Guy Fawkes, Christmas.

Do you add these to your plans?

Blog about what you can relating to you and your blogs topic, theme?

Planning early and planning well you can make the most of being seen when the time comes, being prepared with good articles, ideas, blog posts, contests and other angles can be a great boost, if you can keep the momentum going you have a great chance to improve the following ones, like Christmas. ;o)

While you take a breather, take time to also reflect on what you can add to the mix for the next few months. ;o)

Any thoughts?

"New niches if I stay online"

I love blogging on here but obviously it's not enough, I have now started to really plan out that I will do with things, my other blog I will completely revamp and refocus it.

The portlandpowerblogger one that is.

I would like to keep this blog just as it is but improve more and blog to it more, like twice a day or at least once everyday.

Having thought about things a little more I know I need a few more niches, if I can stay online that is what I will be aiming for and I think I found one or two that will be good. :o)

Nevertheless there is also an idea I have which will spark some controversy and yet it will hit on some real truths...more than I can say at the moment, but those it's aimed at will not like it!
Tough... :o)

It will be an interesting thing because the twist to it is crazy!!! :o)

Everything is going to change for me and I will make it the springboard I need to get OFF benefits and blog full time.

But they say "If you don't ask you don't get"

So..

I AM asking, can YOU help me stay online so I can get this controversial idea off the ground and running?
Can you help me stay online so I can blog more on this blog?
I will be doing far more on here from a deaf person's perspective and it WILL be unique because although I AM deaf, I am in the hearing world... :o)

Someone pointed out something about me that really made me sit up and take notice!

So... Can you help?

"Lynn Terry's post..."

Says it all...

Lynn had a guest speaker to outline "3 reasons why your profits aren't twice as big" and number three sums up the sheer value of my offer in earlier post.

I quote...

Even better is to publicly keep accountable via personal friends, or on a discussion forum. It’s a known fact that we tend to work harder to meet public goals than we do to chase after our private ones. You would do well to use this form of leverage on yourself.

Even better is to do it in a private but publicly viewable to the members forum, for you can feel confident not everyone is reading your post, only those who matter so you can go for it without holding back.

See just how useful it could be for reaching your goals?

How powerful to your longer term plans.

Need I really say more?

If you don't see the value by now then you wont full stop.

You see it?
Great, capitalise on it. Leverage it for yourself.

"Get stuffed.."

With enthusiasm and drive to get to where you really want to be.

Did that headline grab your attention?

Was it from your rss reader?

The Internet is littered with things to distract you at all the time while you should be working, or if you are surfing you almost end up surfing completely randomly due to the... distractions.

Too often if you are meant to be working online you get off track and end up wasting several hours on what could take you an hour.

It's said you have a few seconds to grab the attention of your readers, so forgive me if you were working.. ;o)

But I really do want you to "Get stuffed...With enthusiasm and drive!"

There is nothing better to drive you on than to achieve something you set out to do, but all to often we let things slip by the wayside.

Let that madness end for you.
One of the key reasons people "give up trying" is due to lack of real focus on what you should be doing.

It really doesn't matter what it is you need to have drive to achieve.
This can help you get that drive and enthusiasm to achieve.

Are you a newbies struggling to get somewhere?
Do you have a website or blog going?
Feeling overwhelmed by it all?
Info overload a problem?

Are you trying to give up that nasty habit you have?
Keep slipping up?
(This part of the concept is already having good results)

Need to lose weight but having not to good results yet?
Need to get fitter?

Wanting to get somewhere but not really sure how you should go about it?
Jumping from one thing to another?

Perfect for capitalising on what will help you change all that and more.

There really is no better thing than the increase of enthusiasm to achieve what you set out to achieve and that enthusiasm only come from you, within...it's your enthusiasm that drives YOU to achieve...it's your goal after all.

Who could say no to more enthusiasm, the right and needed enthusiasm too.? ;o)

I feel that if you use this concept the way I ask you to you will be much more enthusiastic while also reaching your goals easier, so much so you will not stop using it.

Laser your focus with enthusiasm and you will not go far wrong.

I have been pleased and surprised by the positiveness of the concept and how it has already shown it works.

You don't need the "super-duper" ebook or guru-mumbo jumbo to get success, you just need to ACT on the enthusiasm you have to achieve things.

Those "things" are whatever you want them to be.
You set your goal(s).
The enthusiasm is the drive, increase that and do it!

Simple...effective.

So I ask you to join us, take the opportunity to really start getting somewhere.

But to make this a better deal for you I ask you to act fast...

This will be a one off chance for you and I want you to make that chance a success.

The concept is my focus project which is priced at a very low $15 a YEAR! As seen above left... ;o)

For you if you act NOW I will let 100 of you join at $10 and gain 1 year FREE!

Just use the beer function below, paypal me $10 and mention this, use "one year free please" in the "comment" section of email paypal sends to me with your payment...

I will send you the link, I will NOT be adding you to ANY list.

Those of us already doing it ARE doing it good.
This offer is good for ONE week or the first 100 people.

Once I have 100 members I am also considering raising the price on the membership so it will pay to get in now because you will STILL only pay $10 a year after your free year is up.

Grab your chance now...click the beer function below.

Edit : Update, thanks to those who have joined me and I have to admit I am surprised by not only who has joined but what they think about the concept too. :o)

Don't think this offer will last a week!

"Trying to change?"

Taking to blogging and IM to "change things" round?

Chasing the pipe dream that is overnight riches?

Desperate to change tomorrow and blogging furiously to do so?

Take heed of your blogs future and what you are trying to change as so well put by Seth.

"Pair of cool dudes"

Taking pictures again is great, here is a picture of the two coolest dudes on the planet!

Ok, maybe I AM biased... ;o)

This is also overlooking chesil beach here.

As it's the easter holidays I will have a great opportunity to take some more pictures of my boys, though I will not be posting them all obviously.

It did get me thinking about something though, are you making the most of the different parts of the year in your work efforts?

Meaning do you capitilise on these events?

Easter, Christmas etc...events you can use in your marketing efforts.

Do you plan your year in this way at all?

If so...how?

Take care,

2007 plans...

December is flying by and I have to admit it looks less likely I will get anything going for December to help my Xmas so I have mapped out my 2007 plans and what I would like to achieve for the year, and how I can make money online is a part of that..

I already mentioned it will be a make or break for me this year yet I DO feel confident I WILL make it.
I hope to look back next December and write here WHY it was a good year.

Having a plan AND sticking to it has to be the ONLY way to succeed.
I do not expect it to be easy, no one should, there is work involved just as with anything else that leads to success.

I have several ideas to implement, I am ALREADY working on these ideas to ensure they are ready to go as planned.
The first 2 or 3 months will be very busy for me yet will lay the foundations for the rest of the year, and be the springboard to ensure the rest of the plans grow at a good rate.

So heres the plan.. without giving to much away.. ;o)

I aim to utilise the writing tips in Tiff's awesome book which is a solid resource to follow to maximise my writing skills and get the layout and flow of the writing the best it could be.

Using the superb toolkit to ensure the books are done the correct way to maximise the chances of success and growth using the great promotion tips and more.

Get a book or two done...ready to launch and I hope these will do well so will provide me with the funds to grow at a steady rate.

I will utilise Xsitepro to build all my sites, the sites for the books and using the excellent content from the health plr I plan to create a minimum of ten sites through the year all in the health niche, which is an "ever green" niche.

Every time I get a site up, I will write an extra three articles on that topic to post in the month following the sites launch...this will ensure the site has fresh content added after launch.

Using the fantastic things I learn in the inner circle will help me alot with all these sites and provide me with extra ideas to further grow them while helping me to make money online from the efforts.

Maximise squidoo to help promote my sites.

Continue to build relationships...the KEY to online success.

Any thoughts?

Plans coming on nicely

Looks good from where I sit, the make money ideas I have I hope will work out ok for me.

For the December plans...

I will have my work cut out over the next few days, but if it goes well the rewards will have been very worth it!

I have set up two plans based on the same idea...plan A plan B.. plan B is likely to be the one used but A is the one aimed for, but it is more often than not plan A slips...somewhwere.
So make plan B better for long term.

As for the longer term...2007.. well that looks exciting if it goes as I plan it.. using the right tools and right steps I can't see it going wrong.. it WILL take work.. but then what doesn't?

If you are chasing the ones that promise no work... they aren't out there!

Plan to work and work too plan!
Work is what gives you the rewards!
Working to a plan is what gives you the higher level of rewards!

Adjusting and tweaking the plan too improve it as I go along...adding to it etc will hopefully give me a much more streamlined path to follow.

Exciting times... :o)
I am off to work out how to make money online using the plans I have done.

December planning...

A good time to consider how to make money online for some xmas cash.

So you are not sure about it all really...but who knows till you try? Ebay is a good place to start! ;o)

December is leaving it a little late to do it all, really you want to be putting the plans in action long before December so you can capitalise on it when December comes round, keep any Christmas themed blogs and sites consistently updated through the year even if a little less regular, it means you have a better chance next Christmas.

Better still is to spend a good portion of December planning out your year ahead, whatever it entails. ;o)
The new year comes around all to fast, procrastinate and you miss getting it done.

December is a good month to reflect and plan, it can also take the mind off the stress of Christmas itself, as any parent knows what it can be like.

Plan to make money online all year long, set out the plan In December and follow them through.
