Does posterous have a weakness here?

Soon you will see I have posted this very post here to the comments in this SEO post on posterous by the co-creator of posterous, in the actual comments! (IF it works as it did earlier!)

Not something that was meant to be part of the experience, I only found out by complete accident, a slip of the key literally.

Why I am doing this right now, like this, is to highlight it, is it a possible "comment spam" risk? I think so.

I get the irony of me doing it to an SEO post, but then that is what is what's wrong with SEO, it's gaming the system in some way, what I am doing here could be a form of gaming posterous and the search results maybe just to spread the content...which is why I am not exactly saying how I did this here, but it needs looking into.

Maybe they know it's possible to do this, maybe not, we will soon know, how long it could have gone before someone realised and started abusing it no-one will know.

That fact is I have done it here. It is a potential issue.

You know where to find me posterous guys. :o)
No offence but I had to show this to you and thought the best way was to do it.

Why google search ranking matters

If you are like most people, when you search for something in google or other preferred search engine you most likely scan the results shown, usually paying more attention to the top results shown, google knows what people do when they see the results, having tracked it using eye studies, heatmaps, etc...

Scanning the page is the fastest, simplest way you can digest the information without taking in too much irrelevant detail, this is the natural split-second decision making your brain is so good at, it is only when something catches your attention that you start to read the results properly,

This is proof that getting that all important first page result for your site keyword matters and the further up to the left your result are the better.

As you can see getting in any of the slots on the first page will get you eyeballs...whether you get the clicks is another story altogether.

It's a good thing google test these things. :o)

Better still it's great they don't hide the results, here they are sharing it with us.

SEO is an important part of what you should be doing, just the basics is better than nothing.

"Anchor linking"

Anchor text link...

Had an email from a reader asking what I meant in an earlier post when I wrote that.

Glad you asked if you don't understand, never daft questions are there? ;o)

So, as with any text link it's clickable yet with anchor links you are also using a keyword link, like if I wanted to share a post I made about my dog.

I would use keyword link to give that link more "weight" to the search engines view on that link and the content on the page.

As in this example I would write take a look at Kaya in her youth.

That is the title of the very post.

A common mistake people make is to have all their links saying "click here" for link love.
That is not a good anchor text link at all.

Better would have been to link "link love".

I am sure you can imagine why now. :o)

It's a bonus when it comes to SEO (search engine optimisation).

Hope that makes sense and if not, post in the comments and we will work it out. ;o)

Take care,

"The essence of the blogosphere"

To me the essence of the blogosphere is "connecting", this is done in so many ways yet some swear by some ways and vice versa.

First off...
There is no correct or incorrect way, other than spamming that is.

It's all how you define it, we all have our own ideas of whats good or not, whitehat, blackhat, or grey, I have my own view, whatever.

I like the fact to make a point of a topic, like for example, link building, I can just link to a good piece. ;o)

Linkbaiting is another term used, I much prefer to say "connecting", that is, after all what it's all about.
It's the intent that decides what is linkbaiting to me.

You need to step back and look at the bigger picture.

Looking at Lynn's post about comments had me laughing, I mean Lynn nails it right there, read it, yet to be honest for Eric to say in his own comments that James may not have done it for that reason", makes it stand out even more, it could be just that, a smart linkbaiting tactic by James... ;o)

Then Lynn makes another great post about seo.

Could I be linkbaiting here?

Who knows?

I will just agree with Lynn's comment here, to quote.

I am not suggesting that you disable commenting on your own blog. I certainly wont be doing that. I value my readers thoughts and opinions, and love the ongoing discussion here..

Here was something ironic, proof that it IS keyword links.

I digress, it's ALL about linking, seo, connecting, the whole blogosphere thrives on itself.
The key to every blog is the people, those behind the blogs.

To me the blogosphere is a rich tapestry of digital, interactive, imprints of peoples lives, thoughts, etc.

Looking at things that real people do like standing behind a counter, then blogging about it!
A GREAT idea, what blogging should be.

That's what blogging is about, sharing, connecting, maybe the others connecting to you, reading your blog, etc, spreading the reach of your blog.

Giving great tips and providing short cuts to good info is another great advantage of blogging.

The people often use controversy in getting readers and links to their blogs, sometimes it's unintentional., but works.

The debate over the secret movie is an example, Blair has been a part of the controversy himself, but hey he also does a great blog there, how does he attract them though. ;o)

These people may now check their stats and see me linking to them, or readers going to them from here, pop over here and read...again, connectivity!

If not, maybe I should call them all idiots...they may post and bash me. ;o) JOKE!

Controversy does work, depending on how you do it.

Sometimes it's stupid, yet funny! Only In America eh... JOKE! ;o)

So, the real essence of blogging and the blogosphere is CONNECTING.

Any thoughts?...

Interesting yet suprising...and ironic!

On 30th of december I posted about saddam hussain to hang over on another blog of mine.

Reading the post it's obviously something I posted at a time when the keywords would be searched for... yet the only mention of him on that blog was in the title, also I posted about the impact virally... in a sense I complained. ;o)

What happens..four days later?
Looking at MY stats...I find a few like this.

My post came out top of 132000 searches in yahoo.. wow... well talk about ironic.. ;o)

And I mentioned the keyword phrase ONCE..in the TITLE.

I was pleased to see that..yet suprised and felt it somewhat ironic...seeing as I complained that there would be searches for it.

I learnt alot from that. An SEO lesson for everyone there.

Current SEO

SEO..search engine optimisation to those of you who don't know what that means.
SEO...if you blog, have a site and why it SHOULD be important to you.

If you are building blogs, websites, or plan to, it will definately pay to try and understand basic SEO, as it will become a source of main traffic for your site...if done right.

Theres the rub, SEO is a constant changing thing as the SE's need to keep the searches relevant, while keeping on top of those that use unethical methods to fool the SE for higher placing, often called "black hat"

But you SHOULD be in this for the longer term so you want to be "white hat".. so it pays to
get it right and ethical from day one.
Give the SE's what they want and you get what you want!

Simple... CONTENT... relevant content... but you still need to utilise all the relevant parts of SEO to make the most of your CONTENT, content on it's own won't cut it.

There is alot of advice out ther regarding this yet it is also in constant change, so what works today may not in 3 months.. this is why it pays for you to learn and keep abreast of what you need to know, what effects your work...not everything works for everyone!

Master the basics and you will have a great head start on new sites you make, while also being able to learn the next thing easier as it most likely follow on from what you already know.

Master the basics, and implement on every new site.. and you would see a big difference than had you just built blindy.

Give the SE's what they want and you get what you want!

Go better and give them what they REALLY want...

QUALITY CONTENT...

Add that to good SEO practice and you can't go far wrong.

As a blogger myself I know blogs can get indexed quickly and often but I now feel that it is NOT the best way to go about getting indexed, it works yes, but it is NOT the best..

I recently read a free book, which explained quite nicely about this and it IS easy to try it and see for yourself.. I have to say it is VERY simple yet a great way of starting to see why SEO is important... so a good place to start would be this book.

Grab the backlink book, and read it.. a short but clear read to those who are new to it..
Or thinking of article writing..;)

After you read that and it makes sense... which it will... whatever you know or don't know about SEO.
You may wish to really get to grips with SEO, and if you ARE planning new sites etc, then NOW would be the best time to digest this.

For it is the most CURRENT SEO information.. proven by being a bestseller itself.. proof is in the pudding.. and the guy has sites at the top os the SE's...say no more.

I AM planning a few sites and I WILL get the SEO right from the start, that work will pay off for years to come AND will be far more profitable to me... far more than the book cost!

But NOW with the recent google's delisting of all the crap sites there is a gap to step in and climb that SE ladder.. a better chance for the REAL content to shine...and stay there.

Want to dominate a niche? Build lots of quailty sites catered for that niche.. if you get 4 or 5 in that top 10 on google..you will see a massive boost to traffic and profits.

If they provide QUALITY CONTENT, there is a good chance they stay there.

Best of all ALL your future sites you can build with quality SEO in mind from the off and that has to worth doing.
So I would definately recommend you grab the book sooner than later and capitilise on the recent changes.

Plan well.. act on the advice, deliver quailty and you have a winner or two... ;o)
