Portland Bill lighthouse!
Portland Bill lighthouse ๐Ÿ™‚

Have been a little quiet here the last week or so, well, it’s holidays and having my youngest over is more important. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you all had a good holiday too.

We have all been blessed with some great weather over the whole holiday period… bonus!

Beautiful sunsets on the beach.

It also give me a few days, or nights should I say, to take a step back and have a good look at things, partly the move to WP has given me some food for thought, yet I also mean taking a step back on the whole.

Where I want to spend time, effort energy and how.

The recent ning issue has also given me food for though, as I have the Portlanders social site on ning, see what happens soon enough with that, though I do think they shot themselves in the foot there.

I digress… so… where was I?

Ah, yeah…

Making money online is the bottom line

So, I have given some thought to what I am going to be spending effort on and how, ย after all, part of the aim is to get more…

Make money online
aye! ๐Ÿ™‚

Which means working smarter as well as harder and yes I do need to work harder too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

To some making money online is a dirty thing, they feel everything should be free, well, when they put food on my table, then they get a say. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ain’t doing this shit for nothing!

Part of the process is trimming down the fat, so to speak, getting rid of some of the duds will lesson the workload and give me more time to work on what works, or at least do more testing on where things look worth doing.

Less is more!

One area on this blog I am taking into consideration is to have some private post, post where I can share more of this with members only and not tell the world, IE any competition what I am doing. ๐Ÿ˜†

Just need to work out how to set that up, I am sure some of you smart people who know WPress better than I will chip in within the comments on that, interested to know what can be done, free members, paid, that sort of thing, post restrictions. ๐Ÿ˜€

I would be sharing the plans, ideas I want to implement, how I implement them, and of course the results I get, then share what lessons I learnt, what you can take from it.

The platform, it matters in both senses

The recent WPress move has given me some serious food for thought and I have noticed some interesting things as a result of that move, blogger and WP are VASTLY different. ๐Ÿ™‚

As you can see here, this blog and my local based one ~ Portland Bill ~ are two I willย definitely keep, two that you know about, ย yet the local one is one I want to also use within the private post here, I have good plans for it and feel excited at the possibilities.

One is WPress, one is on blogger, and the blogger one won’t be staying there at this rate…

But it also matters the platform you want to make money online from, not Blogger vs WordPress, but the site, niche… yeah, that platform. ๐Ÿ™‚

There are a million and one niches anyone can test when it comes to this making money crap, boring, tedious and frustrating at times, yet we often miss what’s right under our noses.

Apart from here…

Portland Bill is one site I want to monetise better and that doesn’t mean making money from the locals, friends, just your eyeballs and clicks are enough, in fact friends would be helping me in my main objective, freely. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s your take? Would this appeal?

Thanks… ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Rob,

Smart move man, making money out of your hard work is not a dirty thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do.

Now the membership side of things, I went with wishlist but it completely failed with thesis, I think it works fine with other templates.

There is a free plugin called s2member that acts as a membership plugin but not as powerful.

    Anyway good luck here man

Hey Rob. I have no idea really about making money on line and blogging, but I do also think that you made a smart move researching the best options and ditching the stuff that takes to much effort for minimal payback. I like the portland bill website, its nice to have information on our home town so to speak. How are you looking to make money there? x

      Hi Michelle,

Thanks, yeah I have to trim it down, wasting my time and effort to be honest.

That blog I am going to stick alot of effort into, got some good ideas, some ideas that will appeal to the locals too.

As for making money from it, that would be telling now wouldn’t it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ll share that info on any private post I start up on here, which I am sure you will follow. ๐Ÿ˜€

      Hey Latief,

I agree, I never actually had any intention of monetising this blog when I started it, but hey ho, times and circumstances change, so I need to now. ๐Ÿ™‚

We will get there eh. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is an incredible decision. Making money online.. I bet no other phrase has the competition like this one.. The tough part is actually answering the question, how do you make money online? If you have done that, I guess you are few miles away from actually making money. Affiliate marketing is one brilliant step for the beginners. we come from photography background and we use stock images as a source to money.. as you said there are 1 million ways to make money online. Again the real question is how ๐Ÿ˜€ what do you think?

      Hi Paul,

      Welcome to the blog… ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, that is no doubt one of the most competitive terms to rank for, not something I am trying to rank for here, but use the keywords when it works in the post.

As for the answer, well, we are all on that path and I am in no position to say how others should make money online, all I can share is what I learn and know… if it helps any one person make some small decision that is positive for them… great ๐Ÿ™‚

Photographs will play a part for me, so you may find something interesting. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thought about doing PLR with photos?
Private Label Rights, bundles… say packs of 40, 50 stock pics, set price?

      Hey Dave,

That’s a great point and one I agree with mate and possibly something I have been aiming for in some ways.

I wondered if you had any thoughts on the membership or private post set up on WPress?
