Chesil beach!
Amazing sunsets on Chesil beach! 😀

School is out, the sun is out… my youngest is here, hence the quietness lately. 😀

Some things are more important than sticking words on a screen.

Nevertheless, back on the saddle, ready to go…

Although, truth be told, it’s not all good but that’s life, something we all have to deal with, can’t all be rosy all the time else life wouldn’t have anything interesting for us. 😉

Life is ups and downs, on and offline

Without the crap, we can’t enjoy and appreciate the good… the down side is the damn stress, never good for anything yet unavoidable in some cases…

Like losing offline work for one, due to lack of it! 🙁

Which has put more onus on the online stuff, internet marketing, writing articles, blogging etc… having to be ramped up… and succeed, do that I will.

Internet marketing does work

The reality is, I shouldn’t need a damn offline job, knowing what I do and having been at this game long enough, perhaps not hard enough at it though, and maybe in the wrong places in all honesty…

What needs to change is the how and where… 🙂

Less is more, go big or go home.

Gone are the crappy blogs with crappy adsense earnings that make it a waste of time and space, not the first time I have culled some, I don’t see myself starting any more unless the results are a forgone conclusion, that is I know they will be worth it.

Which will happen at some point… 😉

Authority is where it’s at

The main idea for me now is to build up the few I have that I feel I can make a decent authority site, that is making it the best and biggest I can, one is the Portland Bill site, knowing what I do there is nothing stopping me making that the Portland Bill site.

I am not the only one thinking this way either, authority is and always has been the main way… just that it may have got more important now. 😉

The main thing for me now, having tried to persevere with blogger is to move the Portland-Bill site onto WordPress, it’s far better, has far more features I can utilise to improve the site in leaps, especially in SEO terms. I probably should have moved it onto WPress before adding the intensedebate comments… hoping I don’t lose them all!

More natural keyworded backlinks are needed to get the site ranking better for “Portland Bill” and that’s something I know will make a big difference if done right.

So, expect some changes on the Portland Bill site over the next few weeks, needed changes! 😉

SEO on this blog

I have added the SEO Ultimate plug in to this blog, noticeable by the “continue reading” links on the home page view being keyworded per the post title, much better.

I have never really practised SEO in any real form on this blog as such, which is probably a stupid mistake I need to rectify asap… like starting now, there is alot I can do to improve things.

I am liking SEO more to “Search Engine Organising” as opposed to “SE Optimisation” at the moment, having read more and more about SEO from those I know to be knowledgeable and … yes … an authority on the subject, I realised I can vastly improve what is already on this blog… that along with all new post from here on should make some differences.

Internet marketing and SEO, they are almost inseparable… entwined, so learning more about both is the way to go, much more on SEO for me.

That’s where I am at right now… 🙂

You along for the ride? 😛

Rob-as always thanks for linking to my stuff bro!
Authority is really what the future holds and that authority is for the humans and the search engines. It is an exciting challenge to find a niche and master both of them.
Your Portland Bill site is what I call a “hyper local” and those are great! SO much potential in local niches like that.

Funny thing….. I just automatically assumed that Portland Bill was a guy named Bill from Portland Oregon. (lol) How silly of me.

I will throw some minuscule amounts of link love at it just cause you are a nice guy. Good luck with your SEO makeover. I do not envy you for being in a position to have to do that. I always start with decent SEO (on page that is) for a new blog or other website. I look at the on page stuff like it is laying a good foundation for anything you try to build up in the search engines.

      Hi Kathy…

I am sure there are some Bills in Portland. 😛

You have the right way of looking at it, this blog here I never really considered SEO that much, always been a bit of an anti SEO type, I have always thought if you try with SEO, 99% of the time you try too hard and it can backfire…

Readers first, machines second, I still think that’s the right way but will need to just do a little more of the writing for the machine. 🙂

If I was starting this blog now I would be more likely to practice what I know.

Good luck on moving the blog. Sometimes cute little energetic people take us away from the blog but they are worth it. 🙂

I’m guilty of being lazy with SEO. I don’t really think through it much even though I know how to do it. I think it is just time I’m lacking. I keep thinking one day I will go back and fix some articles…some day.

They are definitely worth it. 🙂

I am similar, I know the basics, just a lazy one when it comes to implementing it here… though I have done more SEO on other blogs and sites.

This was first and foremost just somewhere I could share my own shit… had I wanted to base it purely on Internet marketing, or something, I’d not have used my own name as the domain. 😉

I didnt realize that about the ‘Continue Reading’ links, thanks Rob!
I was unaware about SEO before I started blogging, I remember keep seeing those initials everwhere whenever I try looking for some freelance work.. makes me wish I was a little more educated back then at SEO

I think that links set this way has to be better than “read more” even if only marginally… 🙂

Never too late with SEO because the basics have not changed since the start. 😀

Yeah I am well aware of it and have done things just not here, that will change. 😉

I agree, SEO and internet marketing I just can’t separate.

The basics are not hard to grasp either, like you say, becomes second nature. 🙂

Rob you sound like me:) I am also guilty of not doing my best with SEO…I need to get on track like you are and learn as well as put into practice everything.

I have also been in the game long enough and like you I believe in the wrong places. I myself am doing an overhaul on my goals an strategies.

Good luck and let’s keep each other posted!

Best of luck and yep, will keep ya posted for sure. 😉

SEO is a necessity in any form of online business, and I do believe that if the content is the heart of the business then SEO is the body (or perhaps any body part that’s very important and plays a really huge part LOL).

I also think that no site is ever late for SEO, and that’s what I find best about it. You can always reconstruct a site and marketing campaigns any time, in which research is all that is really needed.

Anyway, I really love how you write and make your points, the approach is very original and personal. And I’m actually learning from it 🙂

      Thanks… 😀

SEO can be overdone, which is where I always felt was the biggest risk, rather do too little than too much. 😉

Once slapped it’s hard to recover from it, better to avoid the slap if possible. 😉

I don’t know that SEO is going to make your site “the” Portland Bill site: your site is stacked with keywords, images, even links to local bloggers already. Google’s gotten the hint, I imagine.

I think if you can get a few articles on that site discussing Portland Bill in such a way that it introduces people to the area and the challenges it faces and its beauty, you’ll be good. And I know you have those articles already, but it has to be regular thing – once every two weeks or so, rant about how people take the place for granted, etc.

My guess is that what you really need for authority is traffic, and the way you get traffic is to get others to consistently promoting you. I’ve stumbled one of your most recent posts there – whenever you want to run a small campaign for your posts, ask for some help on bloggerluv. You’d be amazed what people are giving there.
