Just when it seems there’s…

Something comes along to make things a little easier, better, bearable, often it’s just a new day!

It always happens, yet we manage, everything bothering you today seems so trivial next week, you wonder why you let it bother you in the first place.

Something I thought we get better at as we get older, I mean we know these things yet still it gets under our skin, we should know better…I must have been mistaken!

Then again, knowing and accepting are two different things!

As some of you know I started writing an ebook, digital report, (whatever you want to call them) I had wanted to write for a while hoping it would help some of my friends and others if it interested them.

Obviously I didn’t want to put out crap, no matter if sold or free, I wanted it to be worthy of the reader.
I at least wanted people to think it worth reading like the last (free) one I did for a forum community.

Yet I knew it would never be “perfect” as they never are (is there a perfect book?) but I just couldn’t get to grips with it, not in a sense it made me comfortable putting it out there. It plain stressed me out, obvious as I posted recently it didn’t help.

I kept rewriting it, rearranging it etc, never really getting it to sit right.

So I stopped, sod it, but then…

Something happened just a couple of days ago that made me rethink it all, now I think I have a better way to make it work for the user.

Here lies a dilemma though…my ears!

I’ll explain…it matters.

A great friend I have known online for several years now has come back into action after a short period of absence, I don’t blame her to be honest… having started online at a similar time and walking this path along with her to a point I can see why the break was needed…being hunched over the damn pc night after night does take its toll…in more ways than one, but now Kim is back.

No doubt back with a different perspective, a fresh vigour to do the things the way it should be done, that is utilising the knowledge and experience gained over that time “doing it all” night after night.

I know that feeling!

I forget what I know…and yet assume others know as much about whatever at times, when we all know better than to assume!

I realised that no matter how the book I was doing turns out, it will never please everyone, it will even bore some possibly, depending on them and what they already know.

In fact it’s my friend Kim who I host this blog with, well Kim has created something I felt was worth grabbing…and yes I grabbed it the other night and I tell you this much, it’s a product I would normally get last, or second from last at least…of all the digital formats, given the choice I prefer to read.

As with anything you follow the system itself is what matters, and the fact people will be able to make sense of it, understand it and follow it through is the value of it.

The system is a set of videos, by which I mean screencast style videos showing you exactly what is to be done, how and where while Kim or whoever speaks explains the “action” while doing the action.

There was my dilemma…I can’t hear the damn things!! *sigh.

But you know what? I didn’t need to hear them to see the value of them and understand them.

Granted out of the many, I have only looked at the ones that I needed to look at…so far, that is ones I knew I could learn something from as some of them I know about anyway through my own experience, although I will watch them all!

Interestingly…

It got me ripping my book/report apart again and the reason for that was the videos show alot of what I wrote of, but watching the videos with no sound was an eyeopener!

I could guess at some of what Kim or whomever spoke talked of during the videos but even then it would be a guess…instead I got a completely different perspective of the videos themselves, the whole experience was strange yet interesting.

Sometimes it’s a blessing that my ears are crap!

So now I got started  thinking about writing a complimentary style report(s) to go with the videos, depending on each video I could do a short report, or maybe a bigger report covering a few videos at once, just some thoughts, tips, ideas, even added resources etc, no idea if worth doing yet.

I could send each to Kim first, see if they were anywhere near what the actual narration is… that will be interesting, for both of us no doubt, after all there are sites on the videos I have never heard of, likewise I am likely to know sites Kim has yet to know of.

It may give Kim a new perspective on the videos.

See, Kim has gone way further down the path of online success than I have, so I knew I would get value from what I needed to see, learn…thankfully I got that too.

Kim has been at the other end of the scale I have yet to (not sure I would like to now) go, that is being a boss of sorts, hiring others…others who as Kim put it “dream of sacking their bosses”…you know, pretty much everyone in a job, do people envy bosses?

So, not so long ago Kim sold all her business, online business that is, Kim is a nurse by day but Kim is also a family person and I can see why that hunching over the pc would affect family life, being single that is living alone, I guess for me it’s not the same. Understandable when family comes first.

As I said, Kim is back at the old passion…yet keeping it simple, effective and manageable no doubt.

Kim has gone back to the basics she knows works, stopped all the madness and back to what got us into it in the first place but with the knowledge of what works, how it works, stripped it bare… plus created the videos showing you just that, no shortcuts to success, just following a system and do it right, work at it until it pays off.

Rinse, repeat until you have enough…no more, no less, to much is too absurd.

Residual income is the aim really, the holy grail of wealth isn’t it? Not the money…the freedom.

There lies the reality of what people strive for, repeat payments for one time work and daily freeing up time to live, to enjoy.

One way to do this is online with internet being the biggest marketplace of them all there is always going to be ways to create value, if you know how to, where to and the why, and there are many different ways.

The videos go a long way to helping with that and cutting out what huge amounts of time it takes to “learn it for yourself” at your own pace, you know, by experience, and I know from my own it will save time, not something anyone can afford to waste.

In effect these videos are your shortcut on the curve well trodden by many of us, still being trodden for many.

I also know some of you will probably be that new to it you need a little more in a sense that both myself and Kim can easily forget what we know, we forget what it w
as like before we started…in your position maybe?

We know how easy it can be to overcomplicate things too, leading to not doing.

I hardly ever promote much on here and what I do I have usually tried it, used it, liked it and would recommend it to anyone, most are evergreen, yet as I already said, I cannot hear the words spoken so I obviously can’t comment on that, or voice or content spoken! (Sorry Kim!)

So what next?

Grab the videos, (right click to open in new tab) save them to a folder on your desktop (videos are separate so smaller downloads), when opening them, extract to the folder it shows, watch the chosen video by clicking the Browser icon, IE…Firefox, Chrome, whatever you use in the folder… don’t over do it by watching all one after the other and take notes!

If you are like most people, when you search for something in google or other preferred search engine you most likely scan the results shown, usually paying more attention to the top results shown, google knows what people do when they see the results, having tracked it using eye studies, heatmaps, etc…

Scanning the page is the fastest, simplest way you can digest the information without taking in too much irrelevant detail, this is the natural split-second decision making your brain is so good at, it is only when something catches your attention that you start to read the results properly,

This is proof that getting that all important first page result for your site keyword matters and the further up to the left your result are the better.

As you can see getting in any of the slots on the first page will get you eyeballs…whether you get the clicks is another story altogether.

It’s a good thing google test these things. )

Better still it’s great they don’t hide the results, here they are sharing it with us.

SEO is an important part of what you should be doing, just the basics is better than nothing.

A beautiful sunset over chesil beach just as I was walking down the “incline”, a steep straight path that leads from the top of the island to the bottom…pretty direct!

I was about 3/4 down by this time…should have walked slower! ;o)

Nice day today… here is a picture of the car my brother used to have with the sun on it, just uploaded a small video to youtube but it’s waiting to be available.

Not me…yet.

But my youngest son has now got himself a guitar, kindly given to him.
He can now crack on with learning to play it which with the wonder of free videos on youtube, myspace etc should be fun for him to do.

I will also get a guitar sometime, sounds odd being deaf and playing one but the vibration is good as well me hearing it ok.
I thought if I learn he will always be a step in front of me which will keep him motivated too. ;o)

Once he has made some progress and shows he will keep on keeping on an electric one will be next on the wish list. ;o)

Music is a great thing so I am very happy to see him take notice and action.

I can remember watching the waves pound this pub, going right over the top of it, roughly 50 feet high the waves were.

The last time this happened was the late 80′s.

It used to happen roughly every ten years but since the late 80′s…it’s not happened.
I found this picture showing this as it happened, this is an old picture though.

Hopefully it won’t again seeing as my home is behind it and on a lower level!

A wave is not what I want to see from the kitchen window!

Like the light beam of the lighthouse, a few degrees width here is a big difference out there.

Set off on the wrong angle and it could lead to the vast nowhere!

Funny it brings back some great memories looking at this picture, the lighthouse itself.
I used to love laying in bed late on a foggy night (believe me fog gets bad here) and listen to the great long deep bellow of the foghorn, I can hear it in my head now.

Yep I could hear it easy back then, living in Weston street (you locals will know it) it was only just over a mile or two from here so it was loud at times.

You know it makes me think about what it was like here one time in the says of old, where locals used lights to lure boats in, only to shipwreck right on the rocks or beach after being tricked.

Then looted!

What a life that must have been here then!

The caves and tunnels and alsorts here make me wonder, gotta be buried treasure here somewhere!….Ok don’t rush… ;o)

Pirates and mermaids!! Gets me daydreaming!

Not to mention the “strangers graveyard” we have here.
It IS an interesting place here, too many younger ones don’t really appreciate it yet, if ever they will.

Life’s a funny old game I tell ya!

I digress… what was I gonna say?

Oh yeah.. the pic reminded me! )

I think I’m at a real crossroad in life…NO not an early midlife crisis, I’m not quite that age yet!

More of what direction I go in life and what I do, things are changing whether I think about it or not, I can truthfully pin some of this down to reading or more precisely acting on two books, and having a few chats with a few people, including myself…please don’t send the ones in white! )

If you are a regular reader of this blog you will have seen all these small things build up to whatever changes there will be, and probably relate to it. I mean I do blog about things in my life, head, whatever so you know it’s some reflection of me, real.

By the every nature of blogs it’s conversational.

I do feel I know where I am heading but also how too, yet you know you’re part of it.
As big a part of it as you want to be in truth, after all it’s your choice really, I am just grateful you DO read it, although I like writing you reading keeps me writing it.

But I don’t really know what you like me writing about.

• Do I keep the blog as is?
• Do you want me writing more about…?
• Would you prefer less of….??
• Like the pictures?
• What would you feel like commenting on?
• What would get you joining in?

You see, I hope to have that camera I need in my hand as soon as I see it really, up to a limit of course, may have a mad rush of buys here or something ( ;o) ) that pushes me faster.

So…summer coming up, lots of pics, videos (you’ll laugh or faint) and interesting things going on but I could try to relate these pics or things to things you WILL be interested in…you know for example “how can I relate this experience to (blogging, marketing, whatever?)” topic or viewpoint.

Which way will you choose for me?

I comment on quite a few blogs, even been thanked for it a few times, playing my active part on the blogosphere, and did wonder, as you see at the top of the post ;o) , but realised I simply don’t ask you too often enough.

Strange but the ones I comment on often never ask you to comment, so I thought it worked, did on me ;o)

BUT, I will ask you, please comment, help me make sure I DO keep going in the right direction with this.

I asked if you recognised it…if you’re involved in IM (Internet marketing), then you may well guess the “dream sellers” would have sold them the basic info I gave in the last post, with some filler fluff!

Shame on them…they got easy money, yet in this scenario, the “Harley nut” would feel let down, not knowing the “how to do” part.
There is nothing they can get from it, apart from the buzz of wanting to act on it…yep, been sold the sizzle!

Then he most likely will think less of the seller, feel ripped off!

Shame…short term profits for the seller AND a bad rep.

NOT the way you want to go.

This is exactly what is going on out there.
There is hardly anything that also shows you the “how”.

Not to mention the fact the sellers of the dreams couldn’t give a toss about you, they already have your money!

In this scenario what would I have done?

Well the first thing would be to grab this for the scripts, you will need them later.

I would have given them a plan of action to add to it, one they can do or learn to do.

In this case, create or edit a video just to show you ten tips on basic Harley maintenance.

“Ten tips to maintain your Harley and save service fees!”

Something like that, told him to stick it on eBay, as a limited to X amount box set of videos, relevant auction, ie Harley Davidson must be in the title, then post in the right section.

This way it’s “fast boost cash” to carry on with the plan.

While the eBay auction is going, tell them to set up a simple blog at blogger.com, where you post pictures, write a bit about the pictures, post every other day at least once for the first few weeks, have the link to your blog on your eBay home page, have the blog called something related, like…

Home-built-Harley-Davidson.blogspot.com

It’s clear what it’s about.

Should have sold the videos and have cash coming to keep on building.

Now add other videos to blog and start building your Harley network.

The blog is up, it’s simple enough for them to carry on with, post videos to it via youtube or myspace, posting a funny or viral video will help by spreading fast.

Set up a myspace page related to Harley’s.

All the while there is a link back to your blog.

The first few weeks should be interesting enough to them to keep the work effort up, if you have a passion, like this person with the Harley’s, it’s not work…it’s fun and more learning.

They should be getting a few keen hungry visitors, “fans” so to speak, “Harley fans” to be precise, a targeted market.

The next advice I would offer them is to visit Harley forums, read up on threads, see what problems and issues they talk about, you may have answers in either your head, or on a video.
Get involved in a subtle yet informative and helpful way.
Use a sig link if you are allowed pointing back to your blog.

Build relationships, you have something in common with them all.

All the plan is now is to set up “funnels” for the traffic you get and maximise it.

Next would be to set up a keyword related squidoo lens, probably the easiest site builder out there, have your blog feed linked to it, or just a normal link if feeds baffle you.

Write up a few good articles and post a few good pictures.

These should be good to keep you busy, update them often keep on reading the forums, you can resell more videos on eBay to keep cash flow coming in.

After the confidence grows and you know you will keep on keeping on…

Next would be to get a domain and hosting, domain should have related keywords, ie… Self-built-harleys.com for example.

Time to set up a site to sell you videos and other related things, ie affiliate products from Harley companies etc.

Should you know little about building a site, set it up using a template, or even using blogger or similar blogging software.

By now a month will have gone by, and you will have a few funnels of traffic set up, start getting some reasonable traffic from these as well as regular readers coming back.

You will also have started building solid relationships with “like minded people”.

THAT is taking action, that is doable, that brings results.

Not so hard really, just take it one step at a time, yet start off with what’s EASY.

Doing what you know and have passion for is EASY, setting up a blog is EASY.

Once you have started it will get easier and grow faster.
