Blog stats… looking better than they have in a while and I am grateful to every one of the visitors. πŸ™‚ Thank you. Do keep coming back and add a comment or two when you can. πŸ˜‰

What stats matter and what do you work with?

That depends on the aim of the site and your goals ultimately.

So, what will I be doing to improve things here? Why? … and will you stick around? …

First I should ask myself, what do I want or need to do to make a difference on here and do the stats back it up or do I need to focus on something else?

Or do I just do what I want to do on here and focus elsewhere for other reasons, like earning income etc. . .

My main aim here has always been to …Β Write more meaningful stuff. πŸ˜‰

For me or for you

You can’t go far wrong with decent content whatever it’s about, even a half decent eye opener like a post about having a bath. πŸ˜‰

Decent to whom is what matters though, no point me writing stuff withΒ Β odd words that no-one can relate to, well maybe one will ( πŸ˜‰ ) no matter how good it is, even though that’s not a good post itself, you get the point, so do I write for myself or do I write for you, the reader, or both?

Much like the who are you, really post I did recently which helps me as much as anyone else, though I would love it to help a certain couple of people. Hope they read it.

After all, the blog is Rob SellenΒ  . com πŸ˜‰

I like to write what I am thinking of, grappling with, or working on or learning about or find a passion in, maybe just tell a story type post people can relate to. So in a way it is a personal blog but it is also the one I like doing most for, so it’s time consuming. It needs to count.

I want to write about my experiences, what I learn from all sorts of things and what I learn from people. It matters, to me. πŸ˜‰ I am trying to grow as a person and this helps me with that for certain. I don’t care if some sneer at what I write of, that’s fine as I accept not everyone cares.

But I do need to narrow the focus down to certain areas and I think the best way is to go by what post are popular and do more of them, so you will know what my stats say when you see my next batch of post. πŸ˜‰

I am going to be writing alot so I may as well write decent meaningful content that matters.

Ignoring the stats

Not Quite…Β But I only take real notice of a few key ones for me …

Stats are always interesting and we can get a lot of information from them to make the site work better, easy to see what post are popular and what aren’t, when to post and when not to, what to write about, what not to, and so on . . .

Just from that info graphic above I can see a large amount of people stay for over an hour which is great, new visitors reading lots of post is always good, thanks.Β  On the other hand too many leave far too fast. :/

So I know I have to work on improving more from the top one and have less people leaving so soon, yet the others are hugely encouraging, the longer than an hour one is great, really great. No, really… it is great. πŸ˜‰

30 secs to five mins is a post or a glancing read of a post … need to hook the attention of them a little better. . .Β  headlines, and headings in the post need to be better as those visitors are likely skimmers. The others over 5 mins are great and will improve as often they will only read the latest post. πŸ™‚

Popular pages and pathways of visitors ie the flow of traffic, tells me a good deal of what I need to work on too.

Where you came from

Improving traffic (visitors count) is a key thing with any site or blog and something I can’t ignore or afford to ignore. I have to scale it up overall and do have some ideas to utilise for that.

But I have to say, many of my visits come from social media sites like facebook, twitter and google+ and even using a small picture with robsellen.com and “new post” written on it leads to visitors from my Instagram page. So social media matters and will only grow as more people use it and more share my post more often, hopefully.

This blog has never really been geared up to maximise search engine traffic and nearly everyone uses just one, google, I should work on the a little more but I feel it’s a losing battle trying to keep google happy unless your site is super focused with super focused keywords.

The behemoth it has become to all of us working on sites and traffic. SEO (search engine optimisation) does matter but not that much anymore, to me at least, it’s so fickle you could lose half your traffic overnight just with a small change by google!

Both facebook and google are getting massive amounts of data from us all. We can’t ignore them though. Scary!

Overall, going forward I feel it’s better to be shared on social media as it’s people taking action, not a machine deciding for you and it only takes one influential person to share a post and boom goes the traffic, skyrockets. Fingers crossed. πŸ˜‰

So …

Please do feel free to share anything on any of them sites. πŸ˜‰Β  The share buttons for all the sites are on the bottom of all post, the green one has all the more unusual ones, and don’t forget to like the post itself. Thanks.

Do you have ideas on things I could write about?

After all, you are the one reading it, if you have something you would like me to write about, or have a question you can always contact me using the contact details on the bar under the top image of the blog or the three dashes if using mobiles. Anytime.

Overall I am just going to keep writing as that’s what really counts, I just keep writing post and promoting them as much as I can and slowly things build up.

Reaching out

People help people and we are no different, if I can help others maybe others can help me too, I will share others post I find interesting, even write about them at times as there are some fascinating blogs and post out there and reading stuff is where we learn and get ideas and I will be doing this whether I get help or not as there is no obligation on anyone’s part. Just reading their stuff gives me something useful. πŸ™‚

Reaching out could help one person in a big way, I know that as it’s happened to me in the past and it made a huge difference to me. πŸ˜‰

As they also say, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know and the bonus of that is you don’t know who they know. πŸ˜‰

Like I said, it only takes one influentialΒ  person to share something of yours or write something about your site and your visit count grows a huge way and with it the chance to keep some of them coming back. πŸ™‚

So … if you think there is someone who would like to read something on here, please do tell them.Β  πŸ˜‰

As for the rest… etc… I have to think on all that more. πŸ˜‰
